3 Abraham Lincoln 16th elected president of the U.S. in 1860 & 1864.
Issued the Emancipation Proclamation. Wrote the Gettysburg Address Assassinated after the Civil War was over on April 14, 1865 by John Wilkes Booth. Lincoln was 56 yrs. old

Commanded the Union forces. Lee surrendered to him to end the Civil War, April 1865. Grant in early 40’s

Sam Houston After all I’ve done for Texas! Governor of TX during Civil War. Removed from the office of governor because he refused to sign an oath of secession in 1861. Retires to Huntsville, TX

Fought in 3 different armies in his lifetime. 2nd highest ranking general in the Confederate army. Shot in the leg-severing artery causing him to bleed to death. Dies at Shiloh, Tennessee

Wounded at Gettysburg –permanently disabling 1 arm. Wounded at Chicakamuga in the thigh- amputation.

Hood’s Texas Brigade Robert E. Lee’s finest soldiers. Fought & won even when outnumbered; distinguished themselves in taking Devil's Den despite being greatly outnumbered and suffering heavy casualties. By the war's end, the Texas Brigade had fought in all the battles engaged in by the Army of Northern Virginia except Chancellorsville. Battles included the Battle of Seven Pines, Seven Days Battle, Battle of South Mountain, Battle of Antietam, Battle of Fredericksburg, Battle of Gettysburg, and the Battle of the Wilderness. Of the estimated 5,353 men who enlisted in the three Texas and one Arkansas regiments, only 617 remained to surrender on April 9, 1865, at Appomattox Court House in Virginia.[1] The Texas Brigade, along with the Stonewall Brigade from Virginia, were considered to be the Army of Northern Virginia's shock troops. Would fight & win battles even when greatly outnumbered!

Terry Cavalry unit that fought the most battles in the Civil War. 275 battles in 7 different states In 4 years Terry's Texas Rangers fought in some 275 engagements in 7 states. The unit earned a reputation that ranked it among the most effective mounted regiments in the "western theater" of operations. Benjamin Franklin Terry, a wealthy sugar planter, recruited for and organized the Rangers in Houston, Texas, in August, At the battle of Fort Pillow, the Texas Rangers were credited by Union survivors with refusing to participate in the massacre and with saving prisoners' lives.
