Open your textbooks and begin reading pages While reading, answer the following questions in your notebooks: What is the name of the piece of land that both the French and British want? What advantage did the French have over the British? Who were the most powerful group of Native Americans? Who do the Iroquois eventually ally with? Who does Governor Dinwiddie send into the Ohio Country? What is Washington’s mission when he is sent back to the Ohio Country in 1754? What does he find when he gets there? What was the Albany Plan of Union and what was it’s result?

7 Most English settlers who lived along the Atlantic coast were happy living there and had no need for more land. By 1740, the fur trade was bringing in lots of money and English traders from New York and Pennsylvania began crossing the Appalachian Mountains into the Ohio Valley. They wanted to take over the French fur trade with the Indians.
