A Lesson Plan for 5th Grade Social Studies

2 Analyze the Cause and Effects of the Revolutionary War
Why did the Revolutionary War happen? What events led to war? Who is your favorite historical character from the Revolutionary War?

3 Revolutionary War Timeline
As a group, prepare a timeline including at least 8 major events that took place. An example of this can be found at the following link C:\Documents and Settings\u \My Documents\My Music\Liberty! Chronicle Timeline.htm

4 Research a figure from the Revolutionary War
Find 3 sources of research for a figure of your choice!

5 Discussion of Events Discuss in your small group of 4-5 students important events such as….. Boston Tea Party Ride of Paul Revere Battle of Bunker Hill The signing of the Constitution

6 The project… Each group will prepare a PowerPoint detailing the historical figure chosen. The presentation will consist of 5 slides in the following format--- 1st Slide- The early life of your figure such as when they were born and what childhood was like. 2nd Slide- Significant events they took place in. What were the outcomes and what role did they play? 3rd Slide- What changes did he/she initiate to change the outcome of the war? 4th Slide- Describe your figures later life. What did they do after the war? When and how did they die? 5th Slide- State 3 main points you gained from this experience.

7 Presenting to the Class
Students will teach the class about their Revolutionary War timeline and the historical figure they chose. Each presentation must be 15 minutes long in length and have 3 main points that need to be conveyed to the rest of the class.
