1 Discovering God’s Word—“Revelation”
DISCOVERY 101-A Discovering God’s Word—“Revelation” Prepared by Dennis Henderson, D.Min. Introduction: Thoughts on “discovering:” One of the most profound concepts of the Bible: “G____ S________” Key Verse: In the past God spoke to our forefathers through the prophets at many times and in various ways.” Hebrews 1:1 I. Revelation: God revealed Himself. It is called revelation because God m______ k________ to man what man otherwise could not k________. Therefore it is both H____________ and O______________. There were about _____ authors used by God and even more to whom God revealed Himself. “This is what the LORD says” occurs in ______ verse. From Moses to Malachi (approximate _________ years) for the authors of the Old Testament alone (around _________ years for the whole Bible). Examples of how God spoke include: --V____________ --D____________ --Audible V____________ --L____________ --T____________ --W____________ --M____________:

2 1) 2) 3) M____________are “extra-ordinary” operations of God’s p____________ to reveal Himself and produce a worshipful response of amazement! --S____________ Hebrews 1:2 “but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son.” John 1:1 “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” John 1:14 “the Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us.” John 14:9 “Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father” --C____________ Hebrews 1:2 “he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed heir of all things, and through whom he made the universe.” Psalm 19:1 “The heavens declare the glory of God” Romans 1:18-20 “18 The wrath of God is being revealed from heaven against all the godlessness and wickedness of men who suppress the truth by their wickedness, 19 since what may be known about God is plain to them, because God has made it plain to them. 20 For since the creation of the world God's invisible qualities-- his eternal power and divine nature-- have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that men are without excuse. 21 For although they knew God, they neither glorified him as God nor gave thanks to him, but their thinking became futile and their foolish hearts were darkened.” Creation reveals four things about God:

3 1) The G____________ of God (Ps 19:1)
2) The W____________ of God (Rom 1:18) 3) The P____________ of God (Rom 1:20) 4) The N____________ of God (Rom 1:20) Furthermore, 1) The revelation in creation is p__________ and c__________ to all people (Rom 1:19,20) 2) People are s____________ and suppress the clear revelation in creation (1:19) 3) Creation revelation only c____________—it does not save! (1:18) 4) People need “s____________ revelation” to point them to God’s grace. 5) So God gave s____________ revelation When God spoke through: P____________ V____________ D____________ L____________ T____________ W____________ M____________ I____________ Some of which was i____________ and became S____________ Next Time: God’s inscribed revelation: the Scriptures Assignments: Memorize: Hebrews 1:1-2 and Psalm 19:1 Read: New Christian’s Handbook chapters 9-10 Scripture taken from the HOLY BIBLE, NEW INTERNATIONAL VERSION®.
