At home you can; Reading Identifying and understanding different text structures to comprehend nonfiction texts Asking questions to activate prior knowledge, build understanding, and monitor comprehension Using context clues and background knowledge to determine the meaning of unfamiliar words Next Week Determining the author’s purpose in nonfiction to learn more about the topic Math Learning how to use patterns to place the decimal point in a product Learning how to use a model to multiply decimals and whole numbers Analyzing word problems and choosing a method to find decimal products Writing Revising our memoirs for word choice Publishing the final draft of our memoir Social Studies Learning about the events leading up the American Revolution Analyzing perspectives of the people involved in the French and Indian War Reading and Writing: -Have a conversation with your child about a book they have listened to in class or are currently reading. Ask them to tell you the main text structure of the book/text. (Compare/contrast, problem/solution, sequential, description, cause/effect) -Ask your child to share with you the new and interesting words they used in their writing. Math: -Study multiplication and division facts. -Have your child look up the cost of a loaf of bread. Have them multiply that number by 4. Challenge them to show their work using a model and the traditional method. Social Studies: -Engage in a dialogue with your child using these questions, “What does freedom mean? What does it mean to be free?” -Ask your child to tell you one event that led to the American Revolution.
