1 Welcome to Miss McCaffrey’s Third Grade Class 2017-2018

2 All About Miss McCaffrey…
I am originally from Overland Park, Kansas and decided to make the leap over the state line, in order to fulfill my dream of becoming a teacher. I received my undergraduate degree in Elementary Education from the University of Missouri. I have one older sister who graduated from Kansas State University, and my dad graduated from the University of Kansas, so my family is quite divided. :) In my spare time I enjoy reading, exercising, playing with my dog, and spending time with my family and friends. This will be my third year of teaching! I spent my first year of teaching in the Blue Springs School District and then made the move to McKelvey for my second year of teaching. I have taught third grade each year, and have absolutely loved every minute of it. I feel very lucky to be a part of such a wonderful and accepting community here at McKelvey. I cannot wait to get to know each and every one of you and I am very excited to meet your sweet kiddos! I TRULY enjoy what I do and I am excited to share my love and enthusiasm with your child!

4 Homework Homework is of vital importance as it reinforces skills and concepts taught in the classroom, helps the students develop a strong work ethic, and sense of responsibility for learning. Students will have approximately 30 minutes of homework each night. The following procedures will be followed for homework in our classroom: -Students will be expected to record their assignments in their assignment notebook in order to help them accomplish their tasks everyday. The assignment notebook will need to be signed by a parent every night. -All homework is expected to be completed on time, to the best of the students’ ability, and in neat writing. -One of the goals of homework (especially long term assignments) is to help the students learn to prioritize their time.

5 Homework Continued... Monday and Wednesday: Students will be expected to read their “just right” book for 20 minutes and they will eventually complete a notebook entry. Also, students will have grammar homework, or DOL (Daily Oral Language) to complete. Tuesday and Thursday: Students will be expected to complete math homework, which is typically a sheet from their work book.

6 Homework Accountability
All students will be held accountable for the completion of their homework assignments. Students who do not complete their assignments will go to Homework Club during recess. Students are allowed to work on their homework as I am walking around the room to check their assignment notebooks.

7 Absent From School When your child is absent from school, please call the front office. Only if a student is absent multiple days is it necessary for a parent to pick up work- I would rather the child rest and return to school as soon as they can! *In the event of an emergency or change in your child's dismissal plans, please or call me before 2:30. If you have not received a reply from me by 2:30 please follow up with a phone call to the office to ensure your child gets home safely. We ask that changes to transportation after 2:30 are not made unless it is an absolute emergency.
