INTRO Welcome to Mr. Allan’s class I am here to teach – that’s my job
You are here to learn – that’s your job We will work together this year so that everyone can succeed! Positive attitude is the key to your success

ENTERING THE CLASSROOM
Make sure you have all necessary materials. You need a notebook, something to write with, scientific calculator You must be in your seat and ready to work when the bell rings. If you are missing your necessary materials, you will lose points.

AFTER THE BELL Every day there is a warm up
As soon as the bell rings, begin your warm-up I DO NOT answer any questions until I am done with role. You may work together on warm-ups, but do not disrupt class

GETTING YOUR ATTENTION
When I need your attention, I’ll raise my hand Stop whatever you are doing at the moment Face the teacher and wait silently Notify any classmates who haven’t noticed that the teacher has raised his hand No talking or whispering. All of your attention is given to the teacher

LET’S TRY IT OUT For the next couple of minutes, introduce yourself to the people around you: Ask the following of the members of your group: What’s your name? Two truths and a lie

LISTENING TO INSTRUCTIONS
Listen to the teacher with full attention No pencil sharpening, talking or whispering Don’t write or do anything while directions are being given. Wait until I am done and then you may ask questions related to what I have just said MY BIGGEST PET PEEVES: Talking when I’m talking Walking in front of class while I’m talking

WHILE YOU ARE WORKING Make sure you read or listen to the directions and UNDERSTAND them If you don’t understand, ask for help from students around you. If they don’t understand, ask the teacher If you are asked to help, be polite and offer your assistance. Use your time wisely. NOTE: This is not fashion class. DO NOT PUT ON MAKEUP OR ANY OTHER SORT OF PERSONAL GROOMING DURING CLASS

KEEPING YOUR NOTEBOOK Everyone must have a notebook.
All of my tests come directly from classroom lectures This is a college prepratory class and I teach it as such Keep your notebook clean and organized If you miss any notes, get them from another student or the website IT IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY TO GET ANY NOTES YOU HAVE MISSED WHEN YOU WERE ABSENT

WHEN YOU ARE DONE Check your work and directions to make sure you did not miss something If the assignment is to be turned in, do so in the in-basket at the front of the class If you are done early, you may Work on assignments from other classes Read quietly MOST IMPORTANT: DO NOT disturb other students that are working!!!

USE OF THE BATHROOM Take care of your business between classes
If you need to use the restroom, I only allow one student to leave the class at a time. You may only go when we are doing class work. You may not go to other teacher’s classes, the counselor or anywhere else unless for a special circumstance.

END OF CLASS Clean your area and take all garbage to the trash can
Push in your chairs Wait for Mr. Allan to dismiss you. The bell does not dismiss you, I do After you are dismissed, collect your belongings and leave quietly

EXTRA HELP If you are falling behind or are having trouble with the class, you can: Go to my website to get the notes or missing handouts (my.ccsd.net/rdallan) Before and after school tutoring Check out a book to supplement classwork with at home reading/studying

WHEN YOU ARE TARDY Come up and get a tardy slip from Mr. Allan
DO NOT disrupt class If you have an excuse slip present it to Mr. Allan You will not be excused from any missed work. Get it from a nearby classmate

WHEN YOU ARE ABSENT Get assignments from the board (this is your responsibility) You will have until the following week to turn in the missing assignment If you missed a test, you will have to make up the test within one week. Talk to Mr. Allan to schedule a time (there may some instances where you can retake the test in class)

CLASSROOM RULES All rules presented in the Arbor View student handbook will be enforced Additionally, I have three rules (the three R’s) Be respectful Be responsible Be ready

CONSEQUENCES 1. Verbal warning 2. Loss of daily points 3. Time owed
4. Call home 5. Dean referral ALTERNATIVE: The Wall

DESKS DO NOT WRITE ON MY DESKS.
If I discover writing on my desks, I will begin desk inspections at the end of every class If I find that you have written on my desks, you just volunteered to come in after school to clean my desks

LASTLY: NO FOOD IN CLASS
I don’t allow food in my class. In addition, the only beverage you can have is WATER (no soda, gatorade, anything with color, etc) If I catch you, it gets thrown away CONSEQUENCE: If caught with food, you will be the last person to leave class. You will then be responsible for picking up all the trash off the floor. YOU WILL NOT GET A TARDY PASS!

GUM Gum during class is okay except for the following:
During lab activities, there will be nothing in your mouth including gum If I EVER find gum under my desks or on my floors, NO ONE WILL HAVE GUM FOR THE REST OF THE YEAR!!!

GRADING Lab Reports/Homework = 45% Tests/Quizzes = 50%
Daily Points = 05% 1st quarter grade = 45% 2nd quarter grade = 45% End of semester exam = 10%
