1. THE SIGNIFIER « NEURO(-)PSYCHOANALYSIS » IN THE MEDICAL SCIENTIFIC LITERATURE
A bibliometric study of the ten past years

The term “neuro(-)psychoanalysis” was coined in the late 1990’s to designate the interdisciplinary field of neuroscience and psychoanalysis [1]
According to founders [1], neuropsychoanalytical works can be divided into:
1) “theoretical neuropsychoanalysis”: interdisciplinary psychopathological modeling
2) “clinical neuropsychoanalysis”: psychoanalytical observation and treatment of brain-damaged patients
3) “psychoanalytically-informed neuroscience”: using neuroscientific methods to test psychoanalytically-informed hypotheses
Purpose: to estimate the diffusion of neuropsychoanalysis in the medical scientific literature
Pubmed® database requested for [neuropsychoanalysis OR neuro-psychoanalysis OR neuropsychoanalytic OR neuro-psychoanalytic OR neuropsychoanalytical OR neuro-psychoanalytical] across the period
Elicited references categorized into:
1) “clinical research papers”
2) “experimental-neuroscientific papers”
3) “theoretical-review papers”
40 references elicited
Distributing along an ascending slope in the period (Figure 1)
Significant correlation year/number of papers (Spearman’s ρ = 89.0%; p < 0.001).
Theoretical-review papers (n = 36; 90.0%) predominated over experimental-neuroscientific papers (n = 3; 7.5%) and clinical research papers (n = 1; 2.5%) (Figure 2)

Neuropsychoanalysis is still an emergent notion in the medical scientific literature
Its current impact seems to rest mainly on theoretical contributions
Further developments in clinical neuropsychoanalysis and psychoanalytically-informed neuroscience are thus wanted in the field of neuropsychiatry
