Then and now Read TWICE in silence, thinking about:
How many stanzas do you see in ‘Then and Now’? What is the focus/purpose of each stanza? Stanza: a division of a poem consisting of a series of lines arranged together in a usually recurring pattern of meter and rhyme.

THEN AND NOW Imagine someone is reading this poem to you. How would it sound? Cheerful? Sorrowful? Remorseful? Monotonous? Concerned, dismal and fast paced to reflect the sudden changes in society. Reflects the title, ‘Now and Then’. Nostalgic and melancholy.

Then and now: context Refers to the desire she has for the Aboriginal lifestyle to be like it was before white colonisation. Shows the impact of the 'Assimilation Policy' on the Aborigine's way of life, forcing them to change their culture and live apart from their traditional ways.
