Meaning of Schemes of Work
A scheme of work is an organized, systematized plan made in advance by a teacher, usually at the beginning of a term. It focuses in detail the topics to be taught in a given subject

Purpose of Scheme of Work
Assist the teacher to plan his/her lessons effectively by ensuring that all the necessary teaching & learning resources are collected early enough. Allocate time sufficient to teach each topic and sub-topic. Budget for public holidays, examinations and any other official function. Helps the teacher to have clear vision of the topics covered and time left to cover the remaining topics, thus adjust accordingly.

Purpose of Scheme of Work
Help the teacher to read widely on subject content hence gain confidence. Help a new teacher to know where to start from. Help the teacher prepare lesson plan.

Parts of Scheme of Work Every scheme of work must have administrative information indicating, the subject, class, term and year when the scheme will be operational. It also gives a title. A scheme of work in science, grade IV 1st term 2007. Week: it refers to the week of the term when a given topic in the scheme would be taught e.g. 2nd week.

Parts of Scheme of Work Period or lesson: This refers to the specific lesson in a week when a given topic or sub-topic will be taught. Objectives: This specifies what the learners are expected to achieve at the end of the lesson. Content (topic, sub-topic). It shows what topic or sub-topic will be covered in a given lesson/period. It also indicates some o the main points of the lesson.

Parts of Scheme of Work Teaching & learning activities: These are activities which the students will be expected to carry out in order to learn the content presented to them by the teacher. Teaching & learning resources: These are teaching &learning materials which the teacher is supposed to use to facilitate and therefore achieve the objectives stated e.g. pictures, charts, maps, objects, models, radio, and audio-visual materials.

Parts of Scheme of Work Reference: These are the text books and other printed material included journals, periodicals, magazine etc referred. Remarks: These are comments a teacher makes after teaching a given lesson Means of evaluation: This refers to how the learner’s achievements will be assessed against the planned lesson objectives.

Lesson Planning What is a lesson Plan?
A Lesson plan is a step by step layout of what a teacher intends to do with his pupils in the course of a lesson’s period in order for the pupils to realize a change in behavior outlined in the lesson’s objective(s).

Lesson Planning While preparing a lesson, the teacher also needs to consider the following aspects about the learners: age; ability; level or grade; and individual difference.

Subject Period Topic Time: Introduction as questions, shor story .. etc the aim is attracting the attention of the students Objectives: At the of this lesson the learner should be able to: understand/define/differentiate /analyze/organize/compare/apply/appreciate/evaluate.etc Teaching Methods: Lecturing, discussion, project, role playing, case study, question& answering methods Teaching Aids(AVA): Blackboard, over head project, laptop, flipchart ,project ,textbooks and another teaching materials Procedures/Presatation: indicate steps of how to present/explain the lesson this means (teacher &learner activities) that based on the selected teaching method. Conclusion: is a summary of the lesson Assessment: is stating modes of assessments such as oral questions, exercises … etc in the class, this is called(formative evaluation
