Question 1 Describe the role of women in Nazi Germany. (5) Question 2 Why was education important as a means of spreading Nazi ideas? (6) Question 3 After January 1933 Hitler and the Nazis were able to consolidate (strengthen) their power and gain control of Germany. Three reasons for this were: The support of ordinary German people Their use of terror and intimidation The Reichstag Fire Arrange the reasons in order of their significance in allowing the Nazis to strengthen their grip on power. Mark scheme : Question Influencing young minds through control of the curriculum. Reinforcing obedience/ Nazism/ Aryan superiority through subject content. Role of teachers in spreading ideas. Allowed young people to be manipulated and trained as loyal citizens. Subjects could focus on gender roles.

Mark scheme : Question their use of terror and intimidation was significant for a number of reasons. It allowed for the suppression of opposition through mass arrests and the establishment of concentration camps. The actions of the Gestapo became more prominent. the Reichstag Fire was significant because it allowed the Nazis to claim that Germany was under attack from the communists. They could then imprison large numbers. It also gave the regime legitimacy in the eyes of the public.
