their use of terror and intimidation was significant for a number of reasons. It allowed for the suppression of opposition through mass arrests and the establishment of concentration camps. The actions of the Gestapo became more prominent.
the Reichstag Fire was significant because it allowed the Nazis to claim that Germany was under attack from the communists. They could then imprison large numbers. It also gave the regime legitimacy in the eyes of the public.
