1. Assignment:
Select a controversial topic, phenomenon, or problem that is of interest to you in which you must take a side.
Be sure to support your argument and conclusion with evidence and facts from reputable, reliable resources.
Your essay must adhere to the conventions of standard written English, be typed using 12 point Times New Roman, and double spaced.
All references must be cited and a works cited page using the APA format included. All arguments must focus on the science involved but may (and should) address other aspects of the issue (ie—societal impact, economic impact, etc).

2. Possible Topics: Should a nuclear power plant be built on Long Island?
Should prescription drugs like Ritalin and Adderall be used by college students to increase study time without a prescription?
Should vaccines be required for all individuals?

3. Timeline:
APA References with abstract/introduction from each source (minimum 5 sources)—October 28
Science Articles that describe and provide scientific statistics that support your argument
Articles that provide financial, ethical, legal support of your argument
Specific problem stated—November 23
Your point of view (minimum of one paragraph; 5-6 sentences)--November 23
