Publication of Eurobarometer in 2016 Improve enforcement of EU legislation Designate EU reference centres - Complete welfare strategy in 2017 : 3 studies and three reports will published by the end of 2017 Publication Eurobarometer in March 2016 – animal welfare is important for the european citizen Enforcement: 1. to enforce the rules on pig welfare by performing audits in several Member States 2. to enforcethe rule on animal transport in the context of long journeys to non-EU countries AW Platform: 1. sharing experience and scientific knowledge as well best practice related to animal welfare 2. facilitate the devolpement and the use of voluntary comiitmments 3. pomote AW standars with the aim to improve the market value of EU products at global level

24 January 2017: Adoption of the Commission Decision concerning the Platform on Animal Welfare 30 January 2017: Call of application for the selection of members - deadline 6 March June 2017: Inaugural meeting 75 members, 2 meetings per year

Allow for the exchange of best practices, scientific knowledge and innovation Facilitate the development and the use of voluntary commitments by businesses Contribute to better enforcement of EU legislation on animal welfare Promote animal welfare into global agendas Slide five: Stakeholders dialogue/EU Platform create an opportunity for sharing of good practice, The platform's success will depend heavily on the willingness of each stakeholder to engage and be part of the process. The platform could be used to share experience on implementation of the legislation as well as on issues not covered by legislation. It could be used to promote the integration of animal welfare into more global agendas such as anti-microbial resistance or sustainable food production.
