What did we learn from the scripture passage?
Children of Light have a desire to do what is right,
The Light (Jesus) helps us to do right even when our will fails.
Sin delights in darkness – it thrives in darkness (hiding).
Children of Light have a requirement top show others that they are doing God’s will (shining the Light).

Why do people prefer darkness to light?

Why do people prefer darkness to light?
The unrepentant mind is in darkness
Men’s hostility against God has pushed them into darkness (evil lifestyle and degrading habits) – Rom 1:21
Unbelievers are perpetually in darkness (not able to decide against doing wrong) – Eph 4:17
Before we met Christ, the desires of our flesh filled us with darkness – Eph 5:8

Sin has power to keep men in bondage – Rom 6:16-19
Man struggles with sin as he approaches Light – Rom 7:14-24
Sin loses its power over us when we come to light – Rom 6:6-8
When we come to Light, we become slaves to doing what is right – Rom 6:20-22

Who or what is the Light?

Jesus is the Light who sets us free from sin and death – Rom 8:1-2
Jesus is the Light that shines in darkness – II Cor 4:6-7
Jesus is the Light that the darkness of this world is unable to extinguish – Jn 1:4-5
Jesus is the True Light Who gives light to everyone – Jn 1:9

Living as children of Light
Put on a new nature – Eph 4:20-31
Don’t secretly indulge in sinful works of darkness, you have light from God (i.e. Jesus) in you – Eph 5:6-13
Light up the world around you by living a godly life – Mt 5:14
Let your lifestyle cause men to glorify God – Mt 5:16
