Know common equivalences for length (1 meter = 100 centimeters, 1 yard = 3 feet, 1 foot = 12 inches). Make and record measurements that use mixed units within the same system of measurement (such as feet and inches, meters and centimeters). Use common abbreviations: km, m, cm, in, ft, yd, mi.

And 1 yard is equal to 3 feet. How many inches are in one yard? The abbreviation for yard is yd.

When the ½ inch line is added to our ruler, it looks like this

For example : A rectangle can be divided in to 4 equal parts.

Did you notice the ½ inch line is the same as the second ¼ inch line. 2/4 is the same as ½. If you eat 2/4 of a pie, you have eaten ½ of the pie. Lets look at that again.
