How children are affected:
Advertising/marketing contributes to 15% of U.S children ages 7-17 being overweight. “70% of food product commercials advertise for high-sugar, high-fat foods.” Most children under 8, don’t realize that commercials are trying to persuade you to buy a product. How can you be a responsible consumer?
Recognize the difference between your needs and wants. Don’t believe what you see on the television or other media. Research the product/service before you spend your money. Parents ask Children: What do you like about that? Do you think it’s really as good as it is in the ad? Do you think that’s a healthy choice? *Discuss with children the goals of advertisers *Encourage children to stay away from the television *Don’t let advertisements consume you!
