In-Text Citations By Source Medium Purdue OWL
2
When to Use Them Any time you quote, paraphrase or summarize information from another source
3
Citing a book by multiple authors
For a source with three or fewer authors, list the authors' last names in the text or in the parenthetical citation: Jeanne Wakatsuki Houston and James D. Houston illustrats the changes in living conditions in the camps (104). Farewell to Manzanar highlights the changes in the camp’s living conditions (Houston and Houston 104).
4
Citing non-print or sources from the Internet (The video clips and websites)
Include in the text the first item that appears in the Work Cited entry that corresponds to the citation (e.g. author name, article name, website name, film name). If you have mentioned the information in your statement, include the next item from your Work Cited entry/source card. One online video explains that World War II created an environment of hysteria in the United States (McGleish). In his video, McGleish explains the environment of hysteria that was created by World War II (“Japanese internment during WWII”).
5
Multiple citations To cite multiple sources in the same parenthetical reference, separate the citations by a semi-colon: . . . as has been discussed elsewhere (Burke 3; Dewey 21).
6
General Reminder In-text citations are a part of the sentence you are citing. Make sure the period come after the citation (Purdue OWL).
