1 Welcome

2 The Stone House Center for Public Humanities (CPH) is a project of Slippery Rock University.
The CPH connects the university’s humanities faculty and students to the broader community. We offer collaborative educational programming, public forums, non-degree courses, workshops, and service-learning opportunities, all focused on bringing the insights of the humanities to bear on contemporary public life. Who We Are

3 Our Mission We strive to provide unique opportunities that elaborate cultural heritage, foster innovative educational experiences, and highlight the humanities’ relevance to contemporary life. Accessibility & Collaboration Our focus is on connecting with populations for whom engagement with the humanities is limited by social or economic barriers. We welcome partnerships with community institutions and value work that transcends both academic disciplines and the boundary between campus and the larger community. High Impact Learning We provide opportunities for service-learning, collaborative research, and community engagement. What We Stand For

4 Our Programs ~ Humanities Ladder ~
This unique program enables Slippery Rock University professors to visit local high school classrooms to offer engaging, college-level curriculums through weekly team-taught sessions.

5 ~ Humanities Ladder ~ Program Goals
Introduce college-level humanities curriculums to high school students. Provide engaging opportunities to practice reflective critical thinking in disciplines like aesthetics, philosophy, anthropology, and more. Demystify college for low-income, first-generation, and under-represented students. Provide opportunities for integrated learning and community engagement.

6 Our Programs ~ Shout Out for the Humanities~
This annual on-campus contest encourages awareness and appreciation for the humanities. Prizes are also awarded.

7 Our Programs ~ Historic Foodways~
In addition to food preparation, students learn how western Pennsylvania's food reflects its environment, culture and social customs.

8 Our Programs ~ Humanities Summer Camp~
A unique camp designed to foster integrated learning and community engagement. Our Humanities Summer Camp provides empowering opportunities for high school students to explore the diverse field of the humanities, why they are important, and allows them to "try out" a variety of careers in a low-risk setting.

9 Our Programs ~ Butler County Historical~
A digital collaboration between SRU's Center for Public Humanities and the Butler County Historical Society. Butler County Historical lets you explore the people, places, and moments that have shaped the county’s history.

10 Our Blog ~ Coffee & Questions~
Each month, The Center for Public Humanities interviews a humanities scholar or community member and asks them everything from why they believe the humanities are important to what they're currently binge-watching. Coffee & Questions will inspire you, introduce you to a variety of people and fields, as well as create new conversations.
