1 Parts of the Microscope and Their Function
On the next slide there is an image of a microscope, very similar to the scopes we use in class. Click on the boxes to see the name and function of each part of the microscope. Please complete your diagram and match the definitions.

2 Safety 1st! Record the safety issues below:
Be Gentle!! Hold by placing one hand around the arm and one under the base. Keep covered when not in use Clean hands to remove dust and oil. Use lens paper NOT tissues/paper towels!

7 #12 Coarse Adjustment Knob – Used to make large changes in focus

13 #4 Medium Power Objective – The second lens you use when doing proper microscope work. Usually 10X

14 #5 High Power Objective – The highest magnification used. Usually 43X

15 #6 Stage Clips – Use to keep the slide in place.

16 #7 Diaphragm – Use to vary the amount of light passing through the slide. Usually it is better if the amount of light is low. Click Here to Return to the Main Slide

17 #8 Light Source – Sends light up through the diaphragm and through the slide for viewing. Our scopes use electric bulbs, but some scopes use light reflected from mirrors! Click Here to Return to the Main Slide
