40-60- SSM www.earlybirdyeducation.com Patterns: Length and Size:
Capacity and weight: Children are able to describe patterns and recognise when a pattern has at least 2 variables. They can repeat and create patterns with at least 2 variables. Can recognise different sizes and extends their vocabulary e.g. gigantic, large, tiny. Can they compare at least 3 variables and comment on differences. Are beginning to understand that capacity /weight tells us how much/heavy something is. Can order and compare different amounts of capacity and weight e.g. two jugs of water. SSM Beginning to use mathematical names for ‘solid’ 3D shapes and ‘flat’ 2D shapes, and mathematical terms to describe shapes. Selects a particular named shape. Can describe their relative position such as ‘behind’ or ‘next to’. Orders two or three items by length or height. Orders two items by weight or capacity. Uses familiar objects and common shapes to create and recreate patterns and build models. Uses everyday language related to time. Beginning to use everyday language related to money. Orders and sequences familiar events. Measures short periods of time in simple ways. Money: Time: Position: Shape: Are able to recognise different coins and is beginning to understand the value of 1p 2p. They use money and amounts in play and are beginning to use the correct vocabulary e,g. pound, pence, change, coin. Understand that there is a minute and hour hand and can recognise simple 0’clock times. They begin to use time to measure e.g. sand timers, stop watches. Can follow and give positional instructions and commands such as forwards, backwards and around. They begin to use and follow clues and can interpret positional language. Can identify some 2D and 3D shapes and is beginning to use mathematical vocabulary e.g. side, edge, curve, face. They are attempting to use the vocabulary when describing the shapes.
