2 Objectives: Understand how setting plays a role in fiction.
Introduce and identify phrases. Homework: Finish Chapters 1-4 in LotF and the study guide by Tuesday 4/12 VCR 7c

3 Warm Up – Identify the participle phrases
Pulling out her hair, the teacher ran out of the room. The girl eating an apple was not paying attention. Spiderman, shooting his web, missed the target and fell on his face.

4 VCR 7C Take out your books and start working on your vocabulary.
Whatever you don’t finish is homework. If you finish early, take out LotF and read.

6 Now You Try Take out your laptops and get into your pairs.
Open the document for participial phrases and answer each question to the best of your ability. Only talk to/ask your partner.

11 On Your Own -> Plot Structure
Read “The Interlopers” and follow the annotation guidelines on the back. Separate the story based on the stages of plot development. Note conflict. Annotate foreshadowing and suspense techniques.

13 Exposition Chart Now that you have read the story, log onto Google classroom and fill out the exposition chart for the story. Make sure you submit the end product and press “Turn In”.

14 Group Discussion Get into your groups and discuss the text. Compare your exposition charts and answer the following questions in your groups. Where did you insert your plot dividers? How did the characterization at the beginning influence the text? How did the setting of the story play a role in the conflict?

16 Lord of the Flies Time Take out your LotF book and read. This is a good time to answer the study guide questions and annotate.

17 Closure - 3,2,1 Write: 3 things you learned about fiction today.
2 examples of participial phrases. 1 question you have regarding the lecture.
