Children are expected to complete 1 project this term.
We will be exploring The Stone Age to The Iron Age. The children will complete a number of projects using skills from across the curriculum. Our text focus for this work will be Stone Age Boy by Satoshi Kitamura. Our Art, DT, Geography, History and Music will be linked where possible to the theme. The children will have an opportunity as part of their class and home learning to research aspects of the topic that particularly interest them. Children are expected to complete 1 project this term. Ideas for projects: Dairy writing as a Stone Age child Cooking / Clothing -daily life in the Stone Age Science Light and Shadows Tools used in the Stone Age Rocks and Soils Homes

All written homework will be sent home on a Friday and is to be completed and returned to school on Wednesday mornings. This is standard across all of KS2. Doves will have -Weekly spellings to learn for Friday – with an OPTIONAL challenge to progress and apply their learning. -Daily reading We would encourage you to listen to your child read daily. It is true to say that children who read well, write well. The children will have access to a range of reading material in school from fiction to non-fiction, picture books to newspapers, new and exciting library books to class books made by children themselves. Please show a keen interest in whatever your child is reading, encouraging shared reading at bedtime. The Blue Reading Record books need to be signed by parents so the children can change their reading / library books regularly.

- English homework – sent out Friday, completed in lilac books and returned on Wednesday
(please use a handwriting pencil or a black handwriting pen NOT coloured felt tip / biro pens) - Class Writing Book – Each class have a ‘Class Writing Book’ which children will be encouraged to take home. The children are free to write on a topic/ subject of their choice. The children will be encouraged to write about their experiences, hobbies, interests, day trips, book reviews etc. They can draw pictures to go with their writing or stick photographs into the book, whatever they do is then shared with the rest of the class. Again we would encourage the children to apply taught handwriting formation, writing with handwriting pens or pencils (just not felt tip pens). We will celebrate and enjoy together our varied experiences.

Mathematics homework - sent out Friday, completed in green books and returned on Wednesday (this week the children were just given a Times Tables book, please begin with 2, 5, 10 times tables, if your child knows all of these at pace and in random order then continue to 3, 6 and 4, 8 times tables) Again when completing Maths homework in books please encourage your child to show clear jottings, setting their calculations out methodically – again using pencil. PLEASE CAN WE ASK THAT ENGLISH AND MATHS HOMEWORK BOOKS ARE KEPT IN THE CLEAR READING BOOK BAGS – easier to keep them clean and dry, away from foods and liquids! In KS2 if homework is not completed and returned to school by Wednesday morning then the children will be required to spend some of their lunch time doing their homework in Mr Martin’s mobile class thus missing some of their play time. We are very much encouraging the children to make positive CHOICES about their learning and to complete all homework at home. We would ask that parents reinforce this expectation.
