6
Exit Ticket Review 4. Where are the weak bonds located in a molecule of DNA? A. Between the sugar and phosphate backbone. B. Between the nitrogen bases. C. Between the carbohydrates and lipids. D. Between the phosphate and bases.
7
When a cell divides, how does it make sure that a complete set of DNA instructions is passed on to each cell?
8
Before a cell divides, it duplicates its DNA in a copying process called replication. This process ensures that each cell made has a complete set of DNA directions.
9
Replication During replication, the DNA molecule separates into two strands, then produces two new complementary strands following the rules of base-pairing: A with T C with G T C G A C T G G
10
DNA replication is carried out by a series of enzymes
DNA helicase “unzips” DNA by breaking the hydrogen bonds between base pairs. the molecule unwinds ----- Meeting Notes (3/15/16 15:52) -----

2. DNA polymerase adds complementary nucleotides to the (old) template.
12
3. DNA polymerase “proofreads” each new DNA strand, because sometimes it makes typos.
13
Each DNA molecule resulting from replication has one original strand and one new strand. This method of replication is said to be semi-conservative.
