4 Understand Phase The objective is to understand, not just to build an “as-is” model The model will be a tool and communication device Concentrate on what actually happens in the process

5 Confirm scope & boundaries
Start with process architecture diagram, produced in the architect and align phase Identify the relationships among business processes, technologies, human resources, and business strategy.

6 Mapping existing process
IGOE’s (input, Guide, Output & Enabler) process modelling, flowchart, IDEF0, ASME Focus on process flow and the objects being transformed in the process Start from the outcomes of the process and work backward

7 Mapping … Decompose the process into component subprocessess (a maximum of eight) Matrices of interaction between data and process can be used
