3. Background
HEA Fellowship is an international recognition of a commitment to professionalism in teaching and learning in higher education and demonstrates that your practice is aligned with the UK Professional Standards Framework (UKPSF).
To date over 75,000 individuals have become Fellows of the HEA.
The Higher Education Academy (HEA) recognises staff for the award of Associate Fellow, Fellow, Senior Fellow and Principal Fellow.
These are professional awards that are evidence based
Applications at all descriptors are centred upon teaching and supporting learning in HE.

4. Fellowship offers many benefits:
Consolidating your personal development, emphasising your professional practice in HE and providing CPD often at reduced cost
Entitlement to use post-nominal letters (AFHEA, FHEA, SFHEA, PFHEA)
Increasingly sought by employers across the education sector as a condition of appointment and promotion, it provides a valuable measure of success and is increasingly recognised by international institutions for HE providers
A vital indicator that your institution is fully aligned to UKPSF practice and a badge of assured quality throughout your organisation

6. Main Differences between Descriptors
Fellow – individual engagement (Associate Fellow only 2 areas of Activity)
Senior Fellow –manage, lead or mentor staff specifically in learning and teaching and be a member of established academic teams.
Principal Fellow - sustained and effective impact and influence at a strategic level in relation to high quality teaching and student learning.

A1: Design and plan learning activities and/or programmes of study
A2: Teach and/or support learning
