What triggered the war was the fact Archduke Franz Ferdinand, prince of Austria got assassinated by Serbian Yugoslav, Gavrilo Princip, who was a nationalist. The assassination to place in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina Happened on June 28, 1914 Afterwards, Austria-Hungary declared war on Serbia, spreading the war throughout Europe
