A weekly test to help you remember…
Sci- BYTES A weekly test to help you remember…
2
SCI-BYTES Your test will be EVERY Wednesday. Facts will be added to each Thursday. The test on Wednesday will contain ALL facts given to date.
3
Science Bytes 1 *1- The reactants for cellular respiration are oxygen and glucose. *2- The products for cellular respiration are carbon dioxide, water and energy (ATP). *3- Cellular respiration occurs in the mitochondria. *4- Photosynthesis takes place in the chloroplast. *5- The nucleus is the control center of the cell. *6- The cell membrane is the gatekeeper of the cell.
4
Science Bytes 2 *7- The reactants for photosynthesis are carbon dioxide, water, sunlight and chlorophyll. *8- The product of photosynthesis are oxygen and glucose (sugar). *9- The pistil is the female part of the flower. *10- The stamen is the male part of the flower.
5
Science Bytes 3 *11- Asexual reproduction – one parent, identical to parent, binary fission, budding, regeneration, spore formation, rapid rate of reproduction *12- Sexual reproduction – two parents, male/female, unique offspring, egg/sperm, fertilization, zygote *13- Ribosomes are the protein builders of the cell. *14- The five levels of organization are cells, tissue, organs, organ systems and organisms.
6
Science Bytes 4 *15- Heterozygous describes two different alleles, Ff. *16- Homozygous describes two alleles that are the same, FF or ff. *17- Genotype describes the genetic makeup of an organism. *18- Phenotype describes the physical appearance of an organism.
7
Science Bytes 5 *19- Diffusion is the movement of materials from areas of higher concentration to areas of lower concentration. *20- Osmosis is the diffusion of water. *21- The vacuole is the storage tank of the cell. *22- The shape of a DNA structure is a double helix. *23- Chromosomes are packets of coiled up DNA.
8
Science Bytes 6 *24- In DNA, adenine is always paired with thymine and guanine is always paired with cytosine. *25- Pollen is produced in the anthers. *26- Pollen is captured by the sticky stigma. *27- Prokaryotic cells do not have a nucleus and membrane covered organelles. *28- Eukaryotic cells do have a nucleus and membrane covered organelles.
9
Science Bytes 7 *29- The six simple machines are the lever, wheel and axle, pulley, wedge, screw and inclined plane. *30- The three parts to a lever are the effort force, the fulcrum and the resistance force. *31- Force = Work divided by distance *32- Force = Mass times acceleration *33- Work = Force time distance
10
Science Bytes 8 *34- Be able to draw the pictures of mitosis. In order. *35- A screw is an inclined plane wrapped around a center post. *36- A punnett square is a model that shows the possible ways genes can be combined during fertilization. *37- The chemical equation for cellular respiration is C6H12O6 + 6O2 6CO2 + 6H2O + energy (ATP) *38- The chemical equation for photosynthesis is 6CO2 + 6H2O C6 H12 O6 + 6O2
11
Science Bytes 9 *39- Cytoplasm is the thick jelly-like substance between the nucleus and the cell membrane that contains some nutrients for the cell. *40- Lysosomes contain enzymes that digest food molecules and injured cell parts. *41- Endoplasmic reticulum - passageway that leads from the nuclear membrane to the cell membrane, it creates some proteins and keep the correct level of nutrients in the cell.
12
Science Bytes 10 *42- Newton’s third law of motion states that for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction. *43- Newton’s first law states that an object at rest will stay at rest and an object in motion will stay in motion, at a constant velocity, unless acted upon by an unbalanced force. *44- The cell membrane is selectively permeable. Cell walls are found only in plant cells. *45- The ovary of a flower contains seeds and turns into the fruit. *46- The ovules are the part of the ovary that becomes the seeds.
13
Science bytes 11 *47-Motion is the change in position with the respect to time. *48- Reference point is an object that is stationary (not moving). It is the place you leave from when you move. *49- Distance is a measure of how far an object moves in relation to a reference point. *50-Displacement is the total distance plus a direction (North, South, East, West) *51- Speed is a measure of distance traveled per unit of time *52- Velocity is total speed plus direction (North, South, East, West)
14
Science Bytes 11 *47- In a transverse wave the pulse moves perpendicular to the disturbance. *48- In a longitudinal wave the pulse moves parallel to the disturbance *49- The point where a wave exhibits the maximum amount of positive or upward displacement or the highest point of the wave is the crest. *50- The point where a wave exhibits its maximum negative or downward displacement or the lowest point of the wave is the trough.
15
Science Bytes 12 *51- The wavelength of a wave is measured from crest to crest or from trough to trough or any two common places on a wave. *52- The equilibrium is the resting position of a wave. *53- In a chemical equation reactants products. *54- Ribosomes are found attached to the er or free floating in the cytoplasm *55- Most pollinators have the ability to fly.
16
Science Bytes 13 *56- The hardness of a mineral refers to how easily it can be scratched and is measured by Moh’s scale of hardness. *57- Streak is the powder form of a mineral left on a porcelain plate. *58- Density is the ratio of mass to volume or how tightly packed the molecules are.
