Conventional Assessments
How and why are they created? Single Form Grade level specific Fixed, wide-range items Limited sample Sort and Rank External Accountability Less precise at the two extremes Adult Reading X Maria x x x x 5th Grade x x X Mario x x x x x x X Suzanne Beginning Literacy
7
Bell Curve Comparing Score Precision of Conventional & Adaptive Test Scores NWEA Computerized Adaptive Tests provide comparatively more information for all students; this is particularly evident for high and low performing students.

Opening Page Starting Page
Students finds computer showing his/her name on the screen. Starting Page Then waits for directions and clicks on the “Start Test” button when prompted.
25
Sample Test Page This is a sample math item. The students can work the problem on scratch paper and click on the best answer. Once they have chosen their answer, they click on the “Go on” button at the bottom of the screen.
26
Sample Test Page This is another sample math item.
Notice the calculator at the bottom. It will appear for some items. The student will use it just like a regular calculator, only they click on the buttons with the mouse instead of pressing them with their finger.
27
Sample Test Page This is a sample reading item.
Students read the passage and select the best response. They then click the “Go on” button to move to the next item.
28
Sample Test Page Some reading items have scroll bars on the passage. Students must move the scroll bar down to see the entire passage by using the mouse.

Lexile Scores in Reading
Lexile measure represents the level at which students can read at 75% comprehension Uses Student’s instructional level linked to comprehension Choose appropriate reading materials Create theme units with appropriate reading materials for every child Purchase books for school and classroom libraries Pathfinders for every child

NWEA aligned Lexile scores
NWEA RIT The student has a RIT of 202 and a 638 Lexile. She can read text that extends 50L above and 100L below her Lexile score. Her teacher would search for books that Lexile between 588L and 638L. 688L 538L 202 638L

Student Name: Student Grade: Lexile Range: The Reading Pathfinder list printed below is a collection of literature titles customized to match the reading achievement of your student. According to your student’s score on the NWEA Reading Achievement Level Test or Measure of Academic Progress, he or she should be able to read any of these titles at an appropriate level of challenge. All of the books on the list are generally available at local schools, public libraries, and bookstores. The Reading Pathfinder list provides a general guide to the age appropriateness of specific titles by noting whether the materials are intended for students in the elementary (E) grade K-5, middle (M) grades 6-8, or high (H) school grades LEXILE RANGE = LEVEL LEXILE BOOK TITLE AUTHOR E – M 600 Blue Sky Butterfly Van Leeuwen, Jean E The Berenstain Bear Scouts in the Giant Bat Cave Berenstain, Jan/Stan E – M – H The Frog Princess of Pelham Conford, Ellen M – H Confess-O-Rama Koertge, Ron 610 4 X 4s and Pickups Donahue, A.K.
