1 WORKSHEETS Claudia Terzi Liceo Torricelli (Faenza)

2 WORKSHEET usually refer to a loose sheet of paper with questions or exercises for students to complete and record answers. They may be intended to introduce new topics, and are often completed in the classroom. They are made up of a progressive set of questions that leads to an understanding of the topic to be learned. They can be used to give instructions and to record lab activities.

3 We can use the term worksheet in a very broad meaning, as the word suggests.
Generally speaking it is a tool: to make the students more responsible of what they are doing, to make them concentrate on the subject, to make them understand better, to make them remember more easily in conclusion it is an answer to the fact that student do not usually study by themselves any longer and probably have no method: it is much more useful for younger students, older ones should be more independent and autonomous and able to organize their learning

6 LISTEN TO A VIDEO ANSWER TO QUESTIONS
Is osmosis related to passive or active transport? Does the water move from the hypotonic to the hypertonic solution? Why? Why not? Is …? What …?

7 READ SHORT TEXTS ANSWER TO QUESTIONS When does turgor occur?
Turgor in Plants Plant cells are surrounded by rigid cell walls. When plant cells are exposed to hypotonic environments, water rushes into the cell, and the cell swells, but is kept from breaking by the rigid wall layer. The pressure of the cell pushing against the wall is called turgor pressure, and is the desired state for most plant tissues. For instance, placing a wilted celery stalk or lettuce leaf in a hypotonic environment of pure water, will often revive the leaf by inducing turgor in the plant cells. When does turgor occur? Do you think that turgor is possible in an animal cell? What do you think is going to happen in a hypertonic solution?

10 LAB INSTRUCTIONS LAB WORKSHEETS

11 LAB ACTIVITIES About lab experiments you can find on the web:
They show very often a rich variety of lab instruments, lab devices, etc available in big, well equipped laboratories ……

12 Lab activity: an example
Science Experiment for Kids: Seeing Your DNA What You Need: ……… What to Do: …………… Why you did what you did:……… For older students: BUT

13 Previous slide: The experiment is not suitable for small kids: it is for all our students, 5th year high school students too… The second experiment is suitable for our University students, too deeply discussed for ours

14 ASSESSMENT

15 ASSESSMENT TESTS We are not English teachers, We do not want to correct English. If we ask many written answers to questions, we should have a collaborative collegue of English to check the language. We are better off with other kinds of tests: Fill in the blanks Label Choose etc

16 Other ways of assessment tests
lab report crosswords definitions labels
