6 Librarians are increasingly called upon to document and articulate the value of academic and research libraries and their contribution to institutional mission and goals. ACRL Value of Academic Libraries, 2010, p. 6

9 Subject-specific Library Instruction and Student Success
Nature of subject-specific library instruction More advanced form of library instruction Builds on students’ general information literacy proficiency Utilizes subject librarian expertise Focuses on assignment-specific content that supports the academic discipline Typical student learning outcomes for subject-specific library instruction Students will be able to identify a selection of online databases relevant to their discipline Students will be able to assess the characteristics of a given article in order to distinguish between popular and scholarly sources Students will be able to construct an effective search query in order to find relevant articles on a topic of their choice

14 PSYC 313 Data, Winter 2017 Note: Although there was no significant change in the number of correct student responses in the post-test, these data warrant further investigation and a discussion with the teaching faculty. This analysis will inform the librarian's approach to future instructional sessions.

16 Open-ended Questions – Selected Student Feedback
Using limiters to narrow down the search results Use the library databases instead of browsing online Select an appropriate database for my research topic Be specific with keywords/subject terms Don’t have to always use google Use the library course-specific guide Identify key concepts before searching the database Search multiple databases at a time Selecting synonyms for search terms

17 Collecting Faculty Feedback via Email Survey
The instruction was instrumental in helping the students complete an Introduction portion to a research report, particularly forming hypotheses based off of the literature review and integrating their findings with past literature. For many students, the session provided foundational knowledge to begin research on their own topics and further refine their search skills. I believe [library instruction] was also beneficial to make a connection with a librarian in case they had questions later. [The librarian] provided highly specialized instruction related to identifying social welfare policies pertaining to issues in which students are interested. [It] was extremely valuable to my students. The students became more adapt at performing a policy literature review, moving from some basic orienting resources and progressing toward the securing of materials necessary for more specific analyses.
