Learning Targets Dive into WEL data.
Create a plan for the month based on WEL data. Get ready to do this regularly. Did we cover today’s learning targets?

The Goal… aiken county public school district
Have participants review the skills taught. Look carefully at the column for their associated grade level. Review that it would be ideal if all of the K students completed level 1 … first grade completed level 2 … and second grade completed level 3. We want all students to reach their potential … so it would be awesome if any children go beyond the mark, but during the remainder of this session, we’re going to focus on making sure every student meets the minimum goal of completing the associated level. aiken county public school district

You might think of this as triage … What is triage? – triage rations treatment efficiently when resources are insufficient for all to be treated immediately. With our limited time and resources, let’s spend time helping the kids who are at risk of not hitting the goal. aiken county public school district

Quadrants: Q1 Q2 Review the Quadrants – use these slides to help teachers keep it simple. Q3 Q4
10
How to sort…
11
Run a Class Progress Report:
Use data from these columns: Once you have the Class Progress Report for Reading and/or Math & Science (for a particular month) you will use the current location column and the average score column to sort your class.
12
Look at location targets:
Explain how teachers can use the table at the bottom of the Monthly Action Planning form to find the location targets. Here is a link to this .pdf in Box:
13
Usage Calculator… If your school/District are not able to schedule 15min or 30min daily sessions on Waterford (per our recommendations) – or you are looking at a specific number of instructional days, then this .pdf can help you know what the usage goal should be. It is available here:

Q1 Q2 Q3 Q4 Quadrants: Current Location Current Location Score Score
Introduce the Quadrants. The current location is compared to the target on the Monthly Action Planning Form. If a students score is below 80% (and therefore has a red rectangle around it) their score is considered below target. The text in each quadrant appears each time you click the mouse. Q3 Q4

What could you do to help?
Q1 Q2 Keep up the good work! Increase time/sessions on Waterford. Observe Session(s). Motivate for better performance. Prioritize time/sessions on Waterford. Observe Session(s). Motivate for better performance. Here are our suggestions for what actions you could take for the students in each quadrant. Could students in Q4 be given extra sessions in place of those in Q1 for example? Do you have any suggestions on what you could do? Q3 Q4
16
Q1 Q2 Q3 Q4 Quadrants: How many students below location goal?
How many students scoring below 80%? Names of 5 lowest location students. Names of 5 lowest scoring students. Introduce the Quadrants. The current location is compared to the target on the Monthly Action Planning Form. If a students score is below 80% (and therefore has a red rectangle around it) their score is considered below target. The text in each quadrant appears each time you click the mouse. Q3 Q4

# months of usage so far this school year
A little math… Approximately where will students be by the end of the year? If I continue at this pace … ( ) Current Location # months of SmartStart this school year Notice that most of your students are at about the same place. Take a child who seems to represent the group – someone in about the middle of your class who is not the furthest ahead and not the furthest behind. Let’s use this child as your example … Here’s a way to figure out where they will be by the end of the year … if the child continues that the current pace. Roll out over the next 2 slides. NOTE THAT THIS IS AN APPROXIMATION!! x # months of usage so far this school year
18
( ) An example… x 8 = 63 Using a real student… PreK 47 6
This real student from Florida is at PreK 47 at the end of March, they began using SmartStart in October so have had 6 months usage and we have a total of 8 months in the school year. So they will end up at Pre-K 63 at their current rate of progress, if we want them to get to 91 we need to get them additional sessions on SmartStart. x 8 = 63 6
19
So what? PreK 63 I can see what curriculum they will miss.

Usage & Progress Progress Minutes Using SmartStart
So if I increase the time these students are on SmartStart, I will naturally increase their overall progress through the program. ASK: DO YOU NEED TO INCREASE USAGE OVERALL? HOW ARE YOU DOING? CONSULT: HOW CAN WE INCREASE THE AMOUNT OF TIME CHILDREN ARE SPENDING ON THE PROGRAM? Ideas: extra sessions – maybe one or two every week before or after school sessions 20 minute sessions instead of 15 minutes iPad access Minutes Using SmartStart

Q1 Q2 Remind students to always try their best. Model proper listening & responding. Increase time/sessions on SmartStart. Ensure these students get 15mins of SmartStart every day. Observe Session(s). Ensure child is attentive & following instructions. Here are our suggestions for what actions you could take for the students in each quadrant. Could the 5 students in Q3 be given extra sessions in place of other in the class for example? Do you have any suggestions on what you could do? Q3 Q4
