Role Play: Motivational Incentives
You are the manager of a half way house/sober living program and your resident/patients are not completing their expected duties in the house and are not showing up on time for treatment sessions. Please work with a colleague and design a motivational incentive program to improve the treatment participation in your treatment program. Then with one person as a staff person and the other as a resident/patient please have the staff person explain to the resident/patient how the incentive program works. The resident/patient should discuss the ways they like or dislike this program and ask questions, if needed.

Role Play: Motivational Incentives
Nasser is a 24 year old computer technician who is addicted to amphetamines. He is seeing you in outpatient treatment 2X per week. He appears motivated to stop his drug use as his wife and family have become very angry with him for using drugs and not coming home at night and becoming very paranoid. He misses about 50% of his appointments and he is giving drug positive urine tests about 2 times per month. When you suggest that he should enter residential treatment to give him a better chance of success, he asks to get one more chance to make outpatient treatment successful, because he has a good job and would not want to take time off from work. You discuss setting up an incentive program with him. How would you do this? What would you use as an incentive? What behaviors would you target?
