2. What is the Solar System?
The Solar System is made up of the sun and everything that moves around it. Eight planets orbit the sun along with a lot of moons and other objects.
The pull of the sun’s gravity holds the solar System together.

3. The sun is at the centre of our solar system
The sun is the reason for gravity and the reason why the planets do not float into space
The sun provides heat for the planets
With no sun there would be no life
The sun is 100 times wider than earth
Earth would fit inside the sun 1 million times
The sun is in the center of all orbits
There are smaller planets closer to the sun
There is a mix of planet sizes further away

4. There are 8 planets in our solar system
And they all rotate around the sun

5. Planets position relative to the Sun:
inner planets: Mercury, Venus, Earth and Mars.
outer planets: Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune.
The asteroid belt between Mars and Jupiter forms the boundary between the inner solar system and the outer solar system.

6. The planets are called
Mercury, Venus, Earth , Mars , Jupiter, Saturn , Uranus ,Neptune and pluto . (which is now technically a star)

8. Planets ordered by size:
small planets: Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars.
The small planets have diameters less than 13 thousand km.
giant planets: Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune.
The giant planets have diameters greater than 48 thousand km.
The giant planets are sometimes also referred to as gas giants.

11. Mercury Mercury is the smallest planet in the Solar System.
It take Mercury Earth Days to go around the sun
A day, from sunrise to sunrise, on Mercury is equivalent to 176 Earth Days.

12. Venus
Venus is made up of a central iron core and a molten rocky mantle, similar to Earth.
The surface of Venus is very dry with flat plains and highland areas.
Venus is the hottest planet in the Solar System.

13. Earth
The Earth is around 4.6 billion years old according to scientists.
The Earth is the heaviest planet in the Solar System.
The Earth’s atmosphere is composed mainly of nitrogen (78%), oxygen (21%), argon (.93%), and carbon dioxide (0.03%).
Earth is the fifth largest planet in the Solar System.
The width of the Earth is 12,756 km (7,926 miles)

14. Mars
Mars is Known as the Red Planet, Mars has a very red and dusty landscape.
The atmosphere on Mars is very thin, made up mainly of carbon dioxide (95%), nitrogen (2.7%), and argon (1.6%), with traces of oxygen and water.
Temperatures on Mars vary from 0°C to -100°C.
The width of the planet Mars is 6,785 km.

15. Jupiter
Jupiter is the largest planet in our solar system with a width of almost 90,000 miles.
Jupiter’s weight is 318 times larger than Earth. The width is 11 times, volume is 1,321 times, and surface area is 122 times of Earth.

16. Saturn Saturn is the sixth planet from the Sun and the second largest.
Saturn has 62 known moons, fifty-three have been named. Most of them are small in size

17. Uranus Uranus is the third largest planet in the Solar System.
Uranus is the coldest of the planets even though Neptune is located further from the Sun.

18. Neptune Neptune is the fourth largest planet in the Solar System.
Neptune is a gaseous planet, composed of hydrogen, helium, methane, with traces of ammonia and water.
The diameter of Neptune is 49,493 km.

19. Pluto
Since 2006, Pluto is not considered a planet, but called a “dwarf planet” instead.
Pluto is the smallest dwarf planet in the Solar System and is smaller than Earth’s Moon.

20. The moon Earth only has 1 moon
The Moon’s gravity affects the oceans on earth.
Any footprints made by astronauts on the moon are still there and will remain for millions of years because the moon has no atmosphere or wind.

21. Amazing fact!!!
In about a billion years the sun will begin to evaporate the Earth’s oceans!!
