2 Ch. 1 When driving you must ALWAYS have your
valid license/probationary license/NJ permit registration insurance

3 What happens if I move? If you change your address, the change must be reported to the MVC within one week (7 days) after moving If moving from another state to NJ, you must apply for a NJ license within 60 days or before current license expires

4 Marriage/Name Change A motorist who legally changes their name (marriage, divorce, adoption) must report the change to the MVC within two weeks (14 days)

5 Digital Driver License
Under 21=vertical Over 21=horizontal Receiving an illegal license: $200-$500 30-90 days imprisonment Altering or showing an altered license: $1,000 fine 6 mo. Imprisonment

6 Restrictions: If a motorist has a restriction on their license it will appear on the license in a code: 1: corrective lenses 2: Prosthetic device 3: Mechanical device 4: Hearing impairment 5: Attached restrictions (will have a separate card with details. Ex: special modifications to vehicle/limited privileges for medical reasons)

7 Types of Licenses: Basic Automobile License:
For all types of Class D motor vehicles registered by the MVC, except motorcycles Expiration: 4 years Minimum Age: 18 (Permit: 16) Permit Fee: $10 Photo License Fee: $24 Tests: KVR

8 Types of Licenses: Probationary Automobile License
For all types of Class D motor vehicles registered by the MVC, except motorcycles Expiration: 4 years Min. Age: 17 Permit Fee: $10 + $4 decals Photo license Fee: $24 Tests: KVR

9 Types of License Commercial License
For large trucks, buses, and vehicles (Classes A, B, C) Expiration: 4 years Min Age: 18/21 Permit Fee: $125 Photo Fee: $32 Tests: CKVR

10 Types of License: Motorcycle License Class E
Endorsement (M) if they have a NJ basic license

12 GDL = Graduated Driver License
Graduated Driver License Program: *System that gradually introduces privileges to first-time drivers *Restrictions must be strictly adhered to. Failure to comply with any GDL law may result in a $100 fine or possible suspension of driving privilege

15 GDL: The Early Bird Road
Step 2: Practice with Supervising Driver 6 months Step 3: Get a probationary License After at least 6 months of supervised driving & 17 years old Pass MVC road test

16 GDL: The Early Bird Road
Step 4: With Probationary license: 1 year Observe restrictions Get Basic Driver License!! Must be 18 1 year unsupervised driving Pay required fees to upgrade to basic license

17 GDL: The Young Adult Road
Step 1: Get an Examination Permit 17 years Pass knowledge & vision test Pay required fee Step 2: Practice Supervised Driving 6 months

18 GDL: The Young Adult Road
Step 3: Get a Probationary License - Pass Road Test Step 4: Get Basic License!! 18 years old Completed 1 year unsupervised Pay Fee…upgrade license to basic

19 GDL: The Adult Road Step 1: Get an Examination Permit
At least 21 years old Pass knowledge & vision tests Step 2: Permit Driving 3 months

20 GDL: The Adult Road Step 3: Get a Probationary License
Pass road test Step 4: Probationary License 1 year Step 5: Get Basic Driver License!! Upgrade license to basic

No driving between 11:01pm-5:00am No cell phones/electronic devices Supervising driver must be in front seat

Passengers are limited to any parent or dependent of permit holder and 1 add. Passenger Seatbelts Display decals on license plates
