1 An Introduction to Questioning Being, Knowledge and Values
What is Philosophy? An Introduction to Questioning Being, Knowledge and Values

2 What is philosophy. Literally, "love of wisdom
What is philosophy? Literally, "love of wisdom.“ (philo-sophia) Basically, a method of critical thought….. Ideally, the pursuit of the true and the good. Wisdom, Thought, Truth, Goodness: WHAT DO THESE TERMS MEAN?? (Meaning … Now THAT’s philosophy! ) Attempt a philosophical definition. This is not a “dictionary” definition; Instead, it aims at the “essence” (if there is one)

3 (My Definitions…) Wisdom - an understanding developed through experience of natural or habitual patterns that allows one to consistently discern likely events and advise practical interventions. Thought - a (human) body's capacity to virtually reflect and reshape its experience, for the purpose of increasing its power to act on reality in pursuit of its desires. Truth – the unveiling or clearing of an actuality that opens access to its potentiality. Goodness - a positive frequency or vibration that defines a power- or joy-increasing encounter between forces

5 Birth of the Philosophic Concept
In the 1970s, French philosopher Gilles Deleuze defined philosophy as “the art of inventing concepts” that structure the “chaos” of reality to enable us to act upon it and reorganize it? What are philosophic concepts? Almost a mix of science and art Earliest philosophical concept: the Greek “scientist” Anaximander’s Aperion (the boundless): the eternal Source of all changing things: CHAOS. How is this different from a scientific concept? ‘Immortal and indestructible, it surrounds all and directs all.' To it, things return when they are destroyed, as they must be’ -Anaximander
