Why eSafety is important; Some of the challenges and issues that new technology brings; Apps and age restrictions; PEGI Ratings for games; What you can do to help your family stay safe and keep you in control.

3 Why is esafety important?
The internet, gaming and social media now forms a huge part of children's lives; Use technology safely, respectfully and responsibly; Recognise acceptable/unacceptable behaviour; Identify a range of ways to report concerns about content and contact; It can offer great opportunities for learning and collaboration.

4 eSafety: Content – Internet use: Inappropriate/ unreliable/plagiarism i.e. safety of children’s minds; Commerce - scams, phishing, downloads which steal information– even on ‘educational websites’; Contact - via interactive technologies – multiplayer games: Xbox. PlayStation & Nintendo; Social media; Culture – blogging, social networking, Cyberbullying.

6 1 in 3 have made friends with people they don’t know on Social media
89% of children have Internet access at home 82% can access the Internet in their bedroom Children typically access social media sites such as Facebook, chat rooms and Youtube. Survey of 8-12 year olds 1 in 5 have been bullied of ‘trolled’ online 7 in 10 feel happy when using the Internet 1 in 5 have Social Media accounts

9 PEGI games ratings? Over 80% of games are PEGI-12 or under!
Only 6.2% of games are PEGI-18.

10 What can be done at home? Talk to children about the apps/ websites they are using; Parental filters, most Internet Providers have free software ; Guided access and restrictions on iPads; Ensure any Social Media accounts are private.
