1 CORPORATE WORK EXPERIENCE NEW OFFER
Tahira Rehman Work Experience Lead May 2017

2 Offering work experience is the first step….
WHY WE NEED TO CREATE A CAREER PATHWAY FOR YOUNG PEOPLE INTO BCC APPRENTICESHIPS Birmingham is the youngest city in Europe with under-25’s accounting for nearly 40% of our population yet this is not reflective of BCC’s workforce - the average age of a BCC worker is 47 years of age. We need to attract and develop young people with a skills set that can support a 21st Century workforce. We need organisational agility, resilience and adaptability to undertake future roles within the organisation. Offering work experience gives a taster to young people to consider a career with us. Offering work experience is the first step…. UNIVERSITY STUDENTS TRAINEESHIPS WORK EXPERIENCE

3 Working together can make this happen
GOING FORWARD  The first point of call for all work experience opportunities is registration on-line via BCC’s on-line platform is a medium which allows us to engage with our young people in Birmingham transparently. We can easily signpost students from schools, colleges and universities to other organisations who advertise their opportunities on Cog-brum. Procurement to encourage our Business Charter signatories to host work experience placements – to link in with Contracting. Councillors also have an important part to play in building relationships and creating opportunities with educational establishments and local businesses – liaise with Member L&D Lead/Corporate Parenting Support Officer. Working together can make this happen

4 BCC’S CORPORATE PARENTING RESPONSIBILITIES
