2 Definition Transportation is any medium used for the movement of people, animals and goods from place to place. Millions of people all over the world use transportation for education, to do business and for recreation. This movement uses a combination of systems such as land, water and air.

5 Older Forms of Transportation
Years ago people depended on walking riding donkeys carts and bicycles to travel. Those forms of transportation used took a long time and/or energy to reach their destination.

6 Modern Forms of Transportation
Modern Transportation gives people the ability to go where they want to go and when quicker and in less time than before.

7 Categories of Transportation
Transportation can be divided into 2 categories. Internal Transport External Transport

8 Internal Transport Internal Transport is when movement is taken place within a island, county, state, etc. Some popular forms of internal transport are bicycles, motorcycles, buses and cars.

9 External Transport External Transportation is any type of transportation used to travel out of country, county or state as in the case of larger countries. Some forms of external transportation include airplanes, trains, ships, buses or cars.

10 Advantages and Disadvantages of Transportation System.
Land Transportation Advantages Disadvantages Easy to operate Affordable convenient Roadways take up large amounts of land Consumes a large amount of the earth’s fossil fuels Fixed routes are sometimes incovenient.

11 Water Transportation Less pollution to the public.
Advantages Disadvantages Less pollution to the public. Large amounts of bulk cargo is easy to move. Vessels are safely powered by nuclear energy. Oil tanks and nuclear waste present environmental risk if oil spills.

12 Air Transportation Usually faster than Land or water.
Advantages Disadvantages Usually faster than Land or water. Requires a huge amount of fuel. Usually more expensive the Water or Land.

15 Air Cleaner (Filter) The Air-Cleaner filters or cleans the air before it can be used in the car engine.

16 Battery The battery has two main functions these are
to start the car engine To operate the electrical such as the park lights and the radio when the engine is not running.

17 Oil Dipstick The Oil-Dipstick is used to measure the amount of oil in the car engine.

18 Radiator The Radiator stores the coolant and helps in the cooling of the engine.

19 Alternator The alternator charges the battery and operates all electrical equipment while the engine is running

20 The Power Steering Reservoir
The Power Steering Reservoir stores the Power Steering fluid.

21 Suspension The Front and Rear Suspension supports the car body and provides support for the wheels.

22 Muffler (Exhaust) The Muffler discharges the exhaust gases and reduces the noise of the engine.
