2 ‘Achievement doesn’t happen by accident’

3 2013 GCSE Results 49% 5A*C including English and Maths (18% increase on 2012 making Wellfield one of the most improved schools in Lancashire) 15 out of 21 subjects achieved A*C passes in excess of the national average Over the last 4 years 5A*C including English and Maths has risen by nearly 9% - the national average is 4%

4 Target Setting Targets are set for all students using FFT Top 10%
These targets are ASPIRATIONAL and are intended to challenge students to achieve the highest possible grades Data on progress towards targets is collected every half term in Year 11

5 Year 11 2013/2014 targets 61% gain 5A*C including English and Maths
77% make 3 Levels of Progress* in English 75% make 3 Levels of Progress in Maths 3 levels of progress is measured on Key Stage 2 SAT results to GCSE results e.g. if a child gained a Level 4 in KS2 then a Grade C at GCSE would be 3 levels of progress

6 Salle de guerre Weekly meeting which takes place involving key academic and pastoral staff Students and groups of students are discussed in depth Strategic plans to support students are put in place

7 Battlestations Held every 4 weeks
All staff are involved in Battlestations Key students, identified through the data and at Salle de Guerre, are discussed and strategies to support them in their learning are devised

8 Progress Manager Meetings
Miss Sumner has a crucial role to play Plans strategic intervention for students in Key Stage 4 Regularly meets with parents to discuss progress towards targets of individual students Regularly meets and supports students

9 Core Subject Intervention
English intervention after school on Friday Maths intervention after school on Monday Science intervention after school on Thursday Other Core subject intervention during tutorials It is essential that your child attends intervention – it is clear focused time to consolidate their learning

10 Pastoral Support Mrs Bowe has a crucial role to play in this area
Strategic and focused intervention and support to meet the needs of our students in a pastoral capacity Brenda Lee, School Counselor, has a pivotal role in offering a bespoke service to any student who requires support

11 Home Support You are crucial to your child’s success
Communicate - talk to your child and take an interest in their studies, ask questions, talk to us, us, check and sign their planner, attend Progress Manager and Pastoral meetings and parents’ evenings. Encourage your child and reassure them that the effort is worth it! After Christmas your child will be returning for their last FIVE MONTHS at school!! Attendance and punctuality is crucial

12 Attendance Facts Do you think 90 % attendance is good?
This equates to a child being absent one half day per week Which is 19 days of the school year Missing 17 days can lead to dropping one GCSE grade Our Year 11 attendance is currently 96.4% (96.8% whole school)

13 Mock Exams These will take place immediately after the Christmas holidays (starting 8th January) Each student will receive a copy of their mock exam timetable before the end of this term Mock exams are to be treated just like the real thing and give us an indication of areas for improvement prior to the final exams in May

14 Key Exam Dates Year 11 GCSE exams start on 12th May 2014 and finish on 12th June 2014 however some subjects have exams and Controlled assessments taking place throughout the year. The countdown is on……. 164 days!
