In the 1700’s People in the United States were either Farmers who made what they needed by hand or worked in small shops in the cities
As cities and populations GREW the need for goods increased leading to new methods of production during the industrial revolution
The Textile Industry made the first innovations going from Handmade cloth to machine made cloth using Richard Arkwright’s Water Frame Spinning Machine
Factories began popping up next to Running Water to power the Machines and led to an increase in cloth at lower prices as well as Jobs for the people

4. A Clean Slate®
Great Britain Started to pass laws to maintain it’s industrial Dominance but Samuel Slater secretly emigrated to the United States with his industrial secrets
Samuel Slater Teamed with Moses Brown to create a Textile Mill using British Innovations in Pawtucket Rhode Island and created the Textile Industry in New England
New England became perfect for Textile manufacturing due to:
Willing Investors looking to open Factories
Its Available workforce due to poor farming conditions
New England Had MANY rivers and streams to Power the Factories and to ship goods
The South’s Focus on Agricultural goods

5. Two Tickets to the Gun Show
The United States’ need for more guns led to a need for change in the Technology used to create Guns in larger numbers
Eli Whitney created interchangeable parts to break gun production into many pieces instead of One whole gun at a time
Creating THOUSANDS of identical Parts and assembling them at the end made it so THOUSANDS of guns could be created at one time rather than one gun at a time
Whitney’s Creation led Mass Production which sped up the production of manufactured goods and made them much cheaper

6. Help Wanted
With the Availability of Farmland in the United States, less people were working in factories than in Great Britain which led to higher wages in the United States over Great Britain
This Led great Britain to produce MORE goods at a LOWER cost than the United States leading to less investments into factory work
The industries that did expand were Cotton Goods, Flour Milling, Weapon Production, and Iron Production

7. American Owned…American Proud
Before, and during, the War of 1812 Foreign Trade became increasingly difficult increasing the production of American Made Goods
As American Goods became more popular, Investment into Industry increased and expanded the amount of new factories
Americans Began to Buy more American Goods and became more self sufficient increasing the number of American Factories and Jobs
This led to more pride in American Goods and More tariffs to help support Northern Industry
