1 EV DOMESTIC CHARGING UNIT
EVO 16 INSTALLATION AND OPERATION GUIDE LOCATION OF EVO 16 The EVO 16 is weatherproof and rated IP54, it is designed for installation on a garage wall, car port wall, or on a outside wall of a domestic building. It should be placed between 750mm to 1200mm from the floor to the bottom of the unit, and close to where the customer intends to charge their vehicle. Note the length of their chosen charge cable when considering the location. After carrying out a pre-installation safety check, confirm with the customer a mutually agreeable location for the EVO 16 CABLE The installer should use a suitable cable for the installation which will usually be a 4mm² or 6mm² cable for the EVO 16. The installer will need to use his/her knowledge or cable chart/calculator with regard to cable diameter and type depending on the situation and length of cable used. Remember to include the length of the charging cable between the car and the unit when calculating cable diameter. Use a suitable grommet on the wall where needed to protect against water ingress when putting cable through external walls The cable needs to be suitably protected for its location with conduit or be wire armoured cable (SWA) When drilling into walls or other surfaces to mount the unit and run a cable, checks need to be carried out to determine that there is no existing dangers such as cables, gas and water pipes that could be damaged or cause problems with the installation. Use a detector if required. IMPORTANT – READ THIS BEFORE COMMENCING Thank you for purchasing the EVO 16 electric vehicle charging point. The EVO 16 should ONLY be installed by a qualified and competent electrical installer The EVO 16 is a mode 3 charging device and is intended for use on a dedicated circuit direct from a household consumer unit through a suitable MCB and in accordance with building regulations. The EVO 16 is pre-fitted with a Type-A RCD. DO NOT connect the device to an existing circuit, this device draws 16 amps of current. We, EV Chargers Direct ltd, take no responsibility for damage to property, injury or death or other problems caused by improper installation of this device. It is intended for installation by a qualified person and the installer must assure that the device is installed safely and in line with current laws and building regulations in force at the time of installation. The following is intended as a guide only. SPECIFICATIONS Single phase 230v 16 amp current 3.6kW power rating Approx. 15 miles of charge per hour Type A RCD protection fitted IP54 ingress protection rating, install inside or outside Mode 3 charging device, dedicated circuit only Type 2 universal socket Use to charge any mass produced electric or plug in hybrid vehicle on the market CONTACT For more information or questions regarding the installation contact: EV Chargers Direct Ltd, 2 Mount Rd, Bretby, Derbyshire, DE15 0RA Tel: OTHER ITEMS REQUIRED Suitable cable, conduit & fixings 20 amp MCB New consumer unit where required AC Isolator (required for new builds) 4x M8 screws and wall plugs where required Correct tools to complete the install EV Chargers Direct - EVO 16 Installation & Operation Guide

IMPORTANT NOTE: In accordance with ‘Part P’ of the Building Regulations (England & Wales) all notifiable electrical installation work performed in domestic dwellings must be carried out by a competent electrical installer registered with a government approved Part P Competency Scheme or subjected to verification by the local building control department. In Scotland all work must be carried out by an electrical installer registered with a Building Standards Scheme such as those run by SELECT or the NICEIC. In England & Wales the installation of a new circuit or a connection point for equipment outside of the equipotential zone is notifiable. ELECTRICAL TESTING To meet the BS7671 (17th edition) requirements for testing of an electrical installation, the following tests and checks shall be performed by a competent electrical installer before during and after a EVO 16 unit is installed: A visual inspection of the installation including the existing electrical installation. Verification of the characteristics of the electrical supply at the origin of the installation to confirm the supply is suitable for the additional load. A test to confirm the continuity of the circuit protective conductors. A test to confirm the integrity of the circuit insulation resistance. A test to confirm the polarity of the installation is correct. Where applicable a test to confirm the earth electrode resistance is within acceptable tolerances (or) An earth fault loop impedance test A test of the mechanical operation of residual current devices (RCD’s) A test to confirm the operation of residual current devices (RCD’s) is within stipulates timescales (at the rated current and at five times the rated current operating current.) A test or calculated measurement of the prospective fault current. A verification of the functional operation of the EVO 16 unit An electrical installation certificate must be completed INSTALLATION & WIRING (see page 3 for pictures) Remove the screws around the outside of the unit to separate the back mounting panel from the front of the unit, keep the screws to one side. Mount the wall mounting plate onto your chosen surface with suitable screws and wall plugs (M8), use a spirit level. At the bottom of the EVO 16 is a weatherproof cable gland, out of which comes flexible conduit containing a live, neutral and earth. The live and neutral cables are 6mm². READ steps 4 & 5 before mounting the EVO 16 onto the wall fixing plate If your cable run is 6mm² or less connect the tails coming from the EVO 16 to a weatherproof junction box placed below/nearby. If you are using a cable run larger than 6mm² then open up the unit at the back and replace the tails with your chosen cable and replace the cable gland if required Use an earth spike where required if installed outside, follow applicable building regulations with regards to earthing, refer to current wiring regulations Run the cable back to the consumer unit using conduit or other protective insulation where applicable, use a AC isolator between the unit and the consumer unit if it is a new build dwelling ‘or’ if requested in an existing dwelling, an optional kw/hr meter can also be installed. consult the home owner to establish preferences. Check for a onsite generating supply when dealing with the consumer unit, such as a SOLAR PV installation (common with households with electric vehicles), and isolate it along with the mains supply before continuing. Connect to a suitable MCB (20A) at the consumer unit. Check all connections are tight and correct and that all electrical tests are completed to comply with Part-P regulations. Once satisfied that the unit is secure and safely installed on a circuit that meets all requirements of the building regulations in force, you can commission the unit by turning on the mains supply to the unit. Test the RCD and do other safety checks where needed. Follow the operation guide on the left hand side of this page to check that the EVO 16 is working correctly Show the customer how to operate the unit with their vehicle, leave the keys and this instruction guide with them. OPERATION GUIDE Unlock the EVO 16 charging point using the supplied key, the lock is located on the left side of the unit Insert the Type 2 charging plug/gun, on the charging cable, into the Type 2 socket, on the EVO 16 Insert the other end of the charging cable into the vehicle to be charged Press the start button to start charging To stop charging or when charging is completed press the start button again. To reinitialise a charge if stopped midway, remove the cable from the unit, turn it off with the key, and begin from step 1. When charging is finished remove the cable from the EVO 16 and vehicle Lock the device using the key In case of emergency press the red emergency button located on the right side of the EVO 16 NOTE: the charging cable will not become live until the vehicle has communicated with the EVO 16 and the vehicle has instructed the unit to commence charging.
