Our visit to the recycling centre 5th April 2017

On the fifth of April 5th and 6th classes went to the NCW recycling centre .We went by bus ,Mrs Daily and Mrs Collins went with us. We were greeted by a worker who said he was going to give us a tour.

First of all the worker took us to a shed with containers containing aerosals and paint. He also showed us cooking oil from our deep fat friers. It smelled awful.

He then took us outside to three different boxes containing batteries there were car batteries , home batteries and farm batteries. We learned that batteries can be very dangerous.

We then went to see a large container full of glass
We then went to see a large container full of glass .We learned that with car windows they have to take off the plastic around the window because it will not shred like glass.

He then took us to another container full of tiles, stones and a couple of toilets. He said that every year Ireland spent a lot of money shipping tiles to Sweden.

He then took us to a shed with tv’s and fridges
He then took us to a shed with tv’s and fridges.Hhe told us that ten to twenty years ago people would have dumped their fridges on the side of the road.

He showed us to three different recycling stations that recycle things like cardboard . He also told us that a couple of years ago they found a dead animal in one of the stations

He showed us piles of compost that people could take home with them for fertilization of their gardens.

He showed different bins full of metal, grass and timber
He showed different bins full of metal, grass and timber. He told us that tayto bags and tin foil should not be in with the metal as it is not recyclable.

Finally he showed us the clothes and bottle banks
Finally he showed us the clothes and bottle banks.we learnt a lot from him and we would like to thank him very much.
