1 Professional Growth and Service Report (PGSR)
Professional Affairs Committee (PAC) January 6, 2017

2 Elements of the PGSR Teaching – 60% Service – 10% Scholarship – 10%
Note: You get to select how to distribute the remaining 20% to “stack your deck.” PGSR Form

3 Teaching – 60+% Classroom Evaluations – You are encouraged to include evaluations from colleagues or other sources PAC tallies the relative numbers of meritorious/satisfactory/needs improvement ratings and examines the comments. Student Learning Objectives - at least one per course taught during the evaluation period Documentation - Provide evidence that students have met the SLOs Course Evaluations – Only trends are noted.

4 Student Learning Objectives (SLOs)
One per course taught during the evaluation period (May 1, 2016 to April 30, 2017) SMART Specific Measureable/verifiable Attainable Results-Focused Tailored to Course As a result of (student experience), the students will be able to (action verb) + (assessment evidence). PGSR DOCUMENTS

5 Example SLO - Humanities
After interpreting authentic written and oral texts about vocabulary about the house, furniture and appliances and practicing interpersonal communication with partners, French I students will present their dream homes orally & in written format. (documentation was a couple of student power points in handout format)

6 Example SLO – Math/Comp Sci.
Upon completion of Pre-calculus, the student will be able to solve a real world problem that involves trigonometry.  This will be demonstrated by correctly answering one of several problems on the final exam.  Target efficiency is 90%

7 Example SLO - Science Upon completion of a lecture/laboratory unit on amines and amides and outside reading assignments on pharmacology, students will be able to construct an informative poster for the public illustrating the chemical structure of the assigned drug and educating the public about both its medicinal and abusive uses.

8 SLO Documentation Pre-test/Post-test
Advanced Placement Scores – Include Teacher Planning Report Competition results Maps, murals, sculptures, 3-D projects, charts, etc. Movies, books, plays, diaries, podcasts, taped court trials, taped debates, cartoons, scrapbooks, etc. Term papers, reports, surveys, research projects, etc. Diagnostic, formative, and summative assessments

9 Service – 10+% - Institutional
Contributing to a “task force” committee. Participating as an elected member in faculty committee Chairing a committee Involvement in other Academy committee(s) Contributing to student welfare through extra duties (advising, research, colloq) Advising a student organization, club, or gathering Laboratory management Seeking external funding Helping with Orientation Leading and/or developing a professional development session for faculty and/or staff

10 Service – 10+% - Within Discipline
Serving as an appointed officer to an academic or professional association Serving as an organizer or leader of a workshop, panel, or meeting Contributing time to further the work of a professional society or organization

11 Service – 10+% - Community
Giving presentations or performance in a public arena Representing the Academy in a public medium forum Consultation services Other items that contribute to the good of the Academy community

12 Scholarship – 10+% - Individual
Authoring a peer reviewed book, article, or chapter Presenting at a professional conference Working on one’s own research or mentoring student research beyond the scope of Academy coursework (a description of the research is helpful to PAC) Developing or redeveloping courses for the Academy Developing or redeveloping specific lessons Writing Grants Writing Encyclopedia Entries (including Wikipedia entries) Creation of You-tube videos and/or podcasts Consulting

13 Scholarship – 10+% - in Field
Staying abreast of the literature in either one’s discipline or in teaching methodologies Attending a professional conference (some reflection of the sessions attended is helpful to PAC) Writing a book or website review Reading AP Exams Maintaining an active membership in a professional organization and attending regular events. Editing a professional journal Peer Reviewing scholarship submitted for publication
