Census The exercise of gathering population data every five or ten years by the governments of countries. (Canada does it every five years)

The difference in census taking in developed versus less-developed countries
Developed Countries: Taken more frequently (5 years) and record a greater amount of information. Less-developed Countries: Taken less frequently (Maybe every 10 years) and record only a few pieces of basic information.

What is the Purpose of a census?
To collect information about the number of people living in a country, but also to identify the age, sex, languages spoken, nationality, occupation and possessions (etc.) of those people.

What is the value of a census?
Governments and businesses find the collected information useful to predict future trends. This allows them to plan more effectively for the changes.
