1 Controlled Assessment: Section 4
This section is all about: Planning the manufacturing of your product Product testing Evaluation Further proposed Improvements

2 Choose one of my final designs to use
Planning the manufacturing of your product The plan of manufacture is where you show the examiner how you made your product and what difficulties you experienced. How did you tackle these difficulties? Howe did you monitor the quality of your work (i.e. QC). Create a Flow Chart to show how you manufactured your prototype and how you monitored it quality. What is a Flow Chart? A Flow chart is made up of 3 different shapes, arrows and yes ‘n’ no’s: Choose one of my final designs to use Does it suit my target audience QC start This shape in a flow chart is known as the ‘Terminator’. It represents the start and stop of a flow chart. This shape in a flow chart is known as the ‘Process’. It represents instruction or action i.e. what to do next? This shape in a flow chart is known as the ‘Decision’. It represents a question with only a yes n no answer. The Flow Chart shapes are linked together by arrows which indicate the correct sequence of events. The aim should be to make the flow chart as clear and simple as possible. An example of half a flow chart can be seen on the next page.

I will use if when making my product to guide and help me, by providing me with step by step instructions on what to do next, to make my making simple. The flow chart on the next page will also help me. As you can see there is column of “Predicted Time and Actual Time” This will let me see how long it should take to do a task, so I don't take too long on one task and end up missing my deadline. Hopefully, this Gantt Chart will be extremely helpful in the process of making my final product to a high standard and on time.

5 Product testing In this section you will need to create another questionnaire. However this questionnaire is going to be about the product that you have created. The idea is to use the questions in your questionnaire to test how successful your product would be if it was to go to market. Remember, it’s very important that the candidates for the questionnaire are from your target market. When you are creating the questions, try and use some of your specification points as topics to discuss e.g. In aesthetics, your target market might have requested a particular colour like Red. In your questionnaire ask a question about the colour that you have used on your prototype. Use graphs and charts to display your results. Don’t forget, you must analyse/evaluate your results in order for you to hit the higher levels. Your analysis should focus on what you have learnt from your results and how you as a designer can use that information to further develop you prototype. I gave my questionnaire to 20 people as I think that this is enough people to produce some valid results that I can use make further improvements and to see how approving my target market is with my overall end product. I generally asked people that were part of my target market of ladies between because there opinion means a lot to my progress in this project, I also asked people in and out of school to show a variety in my results. I produced a mixture of graphs and charts to clearly show my results, here they are: When you look at my product what aspect of it do you think I can improve? There is a visible and clear outcome of this question, as you can see the majority of people said that nothing cam be improved, this is positive and encouraging. If you did buy my product how much would you be willing to pay for it? This questionnaire caused a more of a variety in the results. But the most popular answer was £6-£10. My design specification stated that this was the original amount I wanted to sell my product for, so this is good. Do you think my product will be strong enough to keep your sunglasses safe? This pie chart shows that nearly all the people who took my questionnaire said that my product would be strong enough to keep my sunglasses safe. I am very happy with these results because one of my aims was to make my product as sturdy and safe as possible.

6 Please circle your relevant answers ( you can circle more than one.)
Your questions MUST link to your design specification and research. I created this questionnaire so that I can find out what my target market think of my product and to establish how I can make further improvements. The results from this questionnaire will hopefully make my product even better and likeable. I gave this questionnaire out to 15 people so that I can collect a lot of answers, I also gave out my questionnaire to mostly my specific target market (1-35 ladies) so that I know that my decisions will be liked by the people who are more likely to buy my product. Please circle your relevant answers ( you can circle more than one.) If you have anything extra you want to say, comment or your answer is not listed pleas write on the dotted lines. 1.When you look at my product what do you feel I can improve and in which way? Nothing can be improved The shape The graphics The materials used The size Others ……………………………………………………………………………………………………………. 4.Do you think my product will stand out apposed to other existing packaging's? Definitely yes Maybe Not at all 7. In your opinion are the materials and design suitable for Versace's style? Yes No Maybe …………………………………………………………………………………………. 11.Do you think this product is ergonomic (does it fit well in your hand)? Yes No ………………………………………………………………………………………. 5.Do you think my product will be strong and sturdy enough to keep your sunglasses safe at all times? Yes it will No it wont ………………………………………………………………………………………………………… 8.How do you feel that I could attract more people of your age to my product? ……………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………. 12. On a scale of one to ten (1 being the lowest) how would you rate my overall product? 2. If you did buy my product how much would you be willing to pay for it? £0-£5 £6-£10 £11-£15 £16-£20 Other ……………………………………………………………………………………………………………… 6. Do you like the function of my product, if not how can it be improved? Love it Like it Its okay Don’t like it Its horrible …………………………………………………………………………………………. 9. My product is made out of card. Are you happy with how environmentally friendly my product is, if not how can I improve it? Yes No, it can be improved by………………………………………………………………………………… 3.Do you find my Graphics appealing to people of your age? Yes No Kind of ………………………………………………………………………………………… 10. On a scale of one to ten (1 being the lowest) how would you rate the shape of my product?

7 Do you remember how to evaluate?
Evaluation Do you remember how to evaluate? What will your evaluation consist of? Your opinion on what you have created. Does it still meat your initial specification points? How has your design changed from your final drawn idea, to your prototype, to your final model? What caused these changes? (manufacturing, material or both. Or just aesthetics) Have these changes made the product work better, improve its visual or aesthetic appearance or has it been a complete failure? What further developments need to be made to enhance it reliability as a product ready for market?
