Infertility: The diminished ability or the inability to conceive and have offspring. Infertility is also defined in specific terms as the failure to conceive after a year of regular intercourse without contraception.

Controlling fertility?
Some women are infertile Some women do not want to be fertile
9
Reducing Fertility Oral contraceptive pills contain hormones that prevent the release of eggs from the ovaries. The Pill contains oestrogen which inhibits FSH production, so no eggs mature.
10
Side effects… WHY? The first birth control pills contained large amounts of oestrogen – bad side effects! Birth control pills now contain a much lower dose of oestrogen, along with progesterone, resulting in fewer side effects.
11
Increasing Fertility Women can be given hormones to stimulate the release of eggs from the ovaries (fertility drugs) This fertility drug is FSH which stimulates eggs to mature (IVF)
12
IVF New reproductive technology using hormones and IVF has helped thousands of infertile couples to have babies.
