Measuring College and Career Readiness
PARCC Results: Year One Franklin Lakes Public Schools DecemBER 15, 2015 Measuring College and Career Readiness

New jersey’s statewide assessment program
In 2015, New Jersey adopted the Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers (PARCC) to replace HSPA and NJ ASK in the elementary and middle school in language arts and mathematics. FLPS students took PARCC English Language Arts and Literacy Assessments (ELA/L) in grades 3 – 8. FLPS students took PARCC Mathematics Assessments in grades 3 – 8. Some middle school students took High School Level Assessments in Algebra I, Geometry, and Algebra II. The PARCC assessments replaced NJ’s old assessments – the NJASK and the HSPA in language arts and math. Students begin taking PARCC in assessments in third grade Students taking advanced coursework in middle school did not have to take two math tests (gr. 7&8). Instead, they took the assessment most closely aligned with their coursework. For example, a student in 8th grade who was taking Algebra I as a course was permitted to only take the Algebra I test and did not also have to take the 8th grade math test..

PARCC Performance levels
PARCC uses five performance levels that delineate the knowledge, skills, and practices students are able to demonstrate: Level 1: Did Not Yet Meet Expectations Level 2: Partially Met Expectations Level 3: Approached Expectations Level 4: Met Expectations Level 5: Exceeded Expectations In PARCC, student outcomes are divided into five performance levels. While PARCC is a meaningful assessment of student learning that provides useful information about a student, it is one of many measures used to understand student achievement. Everyday classroom performance and performance on local benchmarks/ assessments also inform our understanding of student learning. College & Career Readiness track

The first column includes the count of valid test scores in the district. Note: participation was lower in Middle School Grades. Therefore, data may not be representative of district performance due to low participation. Reports providing information about specific subgroups, e.g., Special Education, LEP, and other groups broken out by demographics have not been made available to us to date. That information is anticipated in Jan-Feb College & Career Readiness track

Next Steps: PARCC Data Reflection
How might we use PARCC data to identify strengths and gaps in curriculum and instruction? How might we utilize PARCC data to improve instruction? What professional resources might be needed to meet the learning needs of all students? District will undertake an effort to learn what we can from the first year PARCC results including use of data to: inform understanding of our strengths and gaps in our curriculum and instructional practices. Improve instruction Identify professional learning opportunities and instructional resources needed

Parent Guide to the Score Reports: EngLish LanguAGE Arts/ Literacy
Sample ELA score report depicted. Subclaims are consistent throughout the grades. FLPS will mail out Individual Score Reports will be mailed out tomorrow, 12/16. Students who did not participate in the PARCC in grades 3-8 last year will receive Mock Score Reports showing the type of information that would have been available, had they participated. School average information may not be reliable due to some students test scores being associated with the incorrect school. This has been resolved internally.
