Older and Newer D-LINK NAS Boxes Two types of NAS (BUFFALO, above, and D-Link)

3 The Buffalo NAS (cost $300 as of Nov. 4, 2016)

4 On the rear of the Buffalo NAS is a small switch
On the rear of the Buffalo NAS is a small switch. In the UP position, the NAS is ON. In the DOWN position, the NAS will go into its shutdown mode, and then power itself off. THIS IS THE ONLY WAY TO POWER ON/OFF A NAS PROPERLY! Wait until you hear the drives power down and all lights on the front of the NAS go off. THEN and ONLY THEN, may the power plug be removed from the unit. NOTE: MOST NEW INSTALLATIONS OF THIS UNIT ARE CONNECTED TO A UPS, SO THAT IF/WHEN A POWER FAILURE OCCURS, THE NAS WILL TURN OFF AUTOMATICALLY. IT SHOULD ALSO POWER UP AUTOMATICALLY WHEN BUILDING POWER IS RESTORED. YOU MAY HAVE TO MANUALLY POWER THE NAS BACK ON, WHEN THE POWER IS RESTORED TO YOUR CLINIC. SIMPLY FLIP THE SWITCH DOWN AND BACK UP IF THE NAS IS NOT ALREADY SHOWING THAT IT IS POWERED ON (LIGHT ACTIVITY ON THE FRONT).

5 The D-Link NAS (we no longer order this item)

6 On the front of the D-Link NAS is a small button (large blue lit one on older units). Press and HOLD until the Blue light starts to flash, then release. When held, in the FLASHING state, the NAS will begin to go into its shutdown mode, and then power itself off. THIS IS THE ONLY WAY TO POWER ON/OFF A NAS PROPERLY! Wait until you hear the drives power down and all lights on the front of the NAS go off. THEN and ONLY THEN, may the power plug be removed from the unit.

7 UPS (Uninterruptable Power supply) (Cost $140 as of Nov. 4, 2016)

8 This UPS device handles power support during brownouts, sags, surges (lightning storms) and general poor conditions from your Main service. IT IS A MUST, IF YOU HAVE A NAS ONSITE!! There are four outlets backed up by battery power and surge protection: (10-30 minutes depending on load of items). Four more outlets are surge protected only. These are designed for low draw items like your router (Meraki or D- Link), your NAS (Buffalo or D-Link) and your switch – device that congregates all your cables from the computers. THIS IS NOT FOR YOUR PC OR MONITOR UNLESS YOU PURCHASE ANOTHER FOR SEPARATE USE.

9 You can have a Buffalo NAS and APC UPS ordered for your site (site will be responsible for cost).
Office Manager or Clinic Director can request the order. Cost is $475 for the two items. NOTE: This unit must be connected to an APC UPS, for proper operation, and data integrity. Item arrives in approx. 1 weeks. A ticket, will need to be submitted (go to helpdesk.Lifemark.ca), for the installation of the NAS and UPS. Contact with Clinic location, your title, three digit clinic number, and contact phone number, when placing your ORDER. When the unit arrives it will need to be installed after hours. PLEASE DO NOT CALL- for the SETUP TASK. A Ticket needs to be submitted with the Helpdesk. ORDERING AN APC UPS
