Standing Against Opposition
Eph. 6:10-18
2
I Samuel 17:16 For forty days the Philistine came forward every morning and evening and took his stand.
3
We will face opposition
4
I Samuel 17:3-11 So the Philistines and Israelites faced each other on opposite hills, with the valley between them. 4 Then Goliath, a Philistine champion from Gath, came out of the Philistine ranks to face the forces of Israel. He was over nine feet tall! 5 He wore a bronze helmet, and his bronze coat of mail weighed 125 pounds. 6 He also wore bronze leg armor, and he
5
I Samuel 17:3-11 carried a bronze javelin on his shoulder. 7 The shaft of his spear was as heavy and thick as a weaver’s beam, tipped with an iron spearhead that weighed 15 pounds. His armor bearer walked ahead of him carrying a shield. 8 Goliath stood and shouted a taunt across to the Israelites. “Why are you all coming out to fight?” he called. “I
6
I Samuel 17:3-11 am the Philistine champion, but you are only the servants of Saul. Choose one man to come down here and fight me! 9 If he kills me, then we will be your slaves. But if I kill him, you will be our slaves! 10 I defy the armies of Israel today! Send me a man who will fight me!” 11When Saul and the Israelites

heard this, they were terrified and deeply shaken.
I Samuel 17:3-11 heard this, they were terrified and deeply shaken.
8
We will face opposition
Big things will still stand against us We have to expect that the opposition will come So be prepared
9
We have to be willing to face our opposition
10
I Samuel 17:32 David said to Saul, “Let no one lose heart on account of this Philistine; your servant will go and fight him.”
11
I Samuel 17:34-37 But David said to Saul, “Your servant has been keeping his father’s sheep. When a lion or a bear came and carried off a sheep from the flock, 35 I went after it, struck it and rescued the sheep from its mouth. When it turned on me, I seized it by its hair, struck it and killed it. 36 Your servant has killed both the lion and the bear; this uncircumcised Philistine will be
12
I Samuel 17:34-37 like one of them, because he has defied the armies of the living God. 37 The LORD who rescued me from the paw of the lion and the paw of the bear will rescue me from the hand of this Philistine.” Saul said to David, “Go, and the LORD be with you.”
13
I Samuel 17:48-50 As the Philistine moved closer to attack him, David ran quickly toward the battle line to meet him. 49Reaching into his bag and taking out a stone, he slung it and struck the Philistine on the forehead. The stone sank into his forehead, and he fell facedown on the ground. 50 So David triumphed over the Philistine with a sling

I Samuel 17:48-50 and a stone; without a sword in his hand he struck down the Philistine and killed him.

What can we learn? We must do more than just identify the problem
Don’t think someone else will do it Realize God wants to use you to stand
16
The victory isn’t because of us
17
Exodus 14:13 Moses answered the people, “Do not be afraid. Stand firm and you will see the deliverance the LORD will bring you today. The Egyptians you see today you will never see again.
18
The victory isn’t because of us
It’s the Power of God It’s the Hand of God It’s definitely not us
19
Ephesians 6:10-18 Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. 11 Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. 12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly
20
Ephesians 6:10-18 realms. 13 Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. 14 Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, 15 and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes
21
Ephesians 6:10-18 from the gospel of peace. 16 In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. 17 Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. 18 And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind,

be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people.
Ephesians 6:10-18 be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people.
23
What do we need to stand Make sure you actually put on the armor
Wrap His truth around you, and let His righteousness guard your heart Run toward the opportunity Never fear what the enemy could throw your way Use God’s word to guide how you think and how you fight Pray

Joshua 1:5 No one will be able to stand against you all the days of your life. As I was with Moses, so I will be with you; I will never leave you nor forsake you.
