Piaget’s Stage/ etapa 2: Preoperational Thought
3 – 6 years of age / años de edad Egocentrism/Egocéntrico- inability to take another’s point of view Animism/Animismo- that inanimate objects have conscious life & feelings; dotarle a los objetos inanimados características realisticas. Artificialism/Artificialismo- natural events or objects are under the control of superhuman sources; la noción que alguien controla eventos o objetos.

Conservation/Conservación
The concept that certain basic properties of an object remain the same even when a transformation changes the physical appearance; el concepto que propiedades básicos de un objeto siguen igual, aunque la apariencia cambia. 3 well known conservation tasks: Liquid, number & mass

When asked: Do these two beakers have the same amount of liquid, or does one have more?
Preoperational child would answer: The taller beaker has more liquid, “because this one is taller, so it has more” (or “There are more ice cubes, than the ones in the container, etc.)

Parten’s 6 Social Levels of Play / 6 Niveles del Juego
1) Unoccupied Play / Juego Desocupado - Standing by, may play with his/her own hands, or follow a teacher. 2) Onlooking Play / Juego Observado- A child observes another child (or group) playing, asks questions, but does not participate. 3) Solitary Play/ Juego Solitario - Playing alone; not attempting to connect with any other children near by.

4) Parallel Play / Juego Paralelo - Playing beside another child; not with the other child(ren)…
5) Associative Play / Juego Asociado - Playing among other children; the child associates (shares toys) with others, but his play is still independent; play is not coordinated with others play… 6) Cooperative Play / Juego Cooperativo - Children coordinate their actions to create a general whole; each child has a role; there is a goal or a purpose to the play session…
9
Piaget’s Cognitive Dev. Theory
Sensorimotor (0-2); Pre-Operational (3-6/7); Concrete operational (7-11); Formal operational (12 to 15 & adult)
10
Piaget’s Stage/ etapa 3: Concrete Operational Thought
Periodo de las operaciones concretas (se extiende desde los 7 años hasta los 11 años).

Conservation/Conservación
The concept that certain basic properties of an object remain the same even when a transformation changes the physical appearance is mastered by 7; El concepto que propiedades básicos de un objeto siguen igual, aunque la apariencia cambia, es entendido por el niño de 7 años

Thinking becomes decentered: multiple aspects of a problem/situation/
task… aspectos múltiples se consideran al mismo tiempo Reversibility (en orden inverso) emerges… Class inclusion emerges: the understanding that objects can be classified in different ways and at different levels…poder entender que objetos se pueden clasificar a varios niveles o categorías (i.e.- dinosaurio )
13
Seriation emerges: the ability to order a set of items quantitatively (by size, weight, or length)…
La habilidad de poner objetos en orden (físicamente), usando el tamaño, peso, o cantidad). Transitive inference / inferir transitivo (deducir)- when a child seriates/orders mentally… La habilidad de deducir (mentalmente)
